A Soul in Three Worlds

Field Manual 1 min read Updated Sep 2026

Your character is one person who moves through three different worlds, and each world sees them differently. The criminal who terrifies Hathian might be a quiet regular at a Backwaters bar, or a student with a past nobody on campus has figured out yet. The progression you earn travels with you. The way the world reads you changes with the ground under your feet.

One character, three communities

Your Chapters, your core experience, are yours everywhere. A character with fifty Chapters carries that weight whether they are standing on a Hathian sidewalk, a Backwaters dock, or a campus quad. But the Pathway the world assigns you, the Title above your head, and the voice the Narrator uses to describe you all shift to match the community you are in. In Hathian you might be a Felon. In the Backwaters, a Lurker. On campus, a Senior. Same person, three readings, because each world judges you by its own standards.

Moving between worlds

Walking from one world to another is as simple as going there. Your character’s Card updates to show the identity most relevant to where you are, and your progress on every path stays intact. You are not starting over when you cross a border; you are showing a different face of the same person. A cop in Hathian who visits the Backwaters is not a cop there. They are a stranger with a history the swamp has not read yet, and that gap is a story waiting to happen.

The worlds share one progression, three vocabularies, and a single soul. Your character is as complex as you write them, and the world is built to honor that complexity rather than flatten it. For how the world reads you in each community, see the world books.
