The Story HUD
The Story HUD is your character’s pulse in the Crack Den. It tracks your presence, measures your influence, and evolves with your roleplay. From jail time to street fights, from teaching class to getting stitched up at the hospital, every action you take shapes what the world sees and what your character becomes.
Community Boosts
This HUD works across the entire Crack Den world. Whether you’re causing trouble in Hathian, surviving the Backwaters, or navigating the social chaos of Columtreal University, the HUD adjusts based on where you are.
- 🔥 Heat (Crack Den): Measures your notoriety, street activity, and how loud your presence is.
- 💀 Thrill (Backwaters): Tracks how far your character goes to survive in an environment built on fear and power.
- 🎓 Spirit (Columtreal University): Reflects your energy on campus through class participation, group ties, and social presence.
Street Cred
Street Cred shows how active and relevant your character is right now. It rises with roleplay activity and fades if you go quiet. It is meant to reflect current influence, not overall history.
Cred increases through:
- Roleplay scenes with other players
- Job shifts and business participation
- Encounters with law enforcement or medical staff
- Leadership in official groups
- Class attendance or teaching (CU)
- Forum posts, photos, and journal entries
- Owning land or maintaining residency
The formula behind Cred is intentionally vague to keep players focused on story, not strategy. This system is here to guide your character’s growth, not to game it.
Chapters
Chapters are your story’s timeline. The longer and more meaningfully you engage, the more chapters you unlock. These represent your history and narrative weight within the world.
Unlocking chapters grants:
- Special titles and group-based roles
- Access to faction leadership or higher-tier job options
- Eligibility for character perks such as armed status
- Increased visibility and reputation in the world
Home and Income
Having a place to live or a job to work helps ground your character and boosts their cred. Renting an apartment, running a shop, or working a shift adds dimension to your story while building connections to other players.
Want to Be Armed?
To keep firearms grounded in good storytelling, only players with enough chapters are eligible to unlock armed status. This applies to both civilians and law enforcement. For HPD officers, this feature becomes available after progressing beyond rookie rank.
Once unlocked, your armed status appears on your Character Card and can be toggled on or off as needed.
Encounters: AI-Powered Story Hooks
Encounters are your gateway to spontaneous, story-driven interactions. Built into the Story HUD, this AI-powered feature occasionally triggers roleplay prompts designed to match you with other players and push your character deeper into the world. Think of it as the engine behind meaningful chance meetings and narrative sparks.
The Character Card
When your HUD is worn, a Character Card appears above your avatar. This card shows your name, age, roleplay stats, and armed status. Others can click it to view details or connect with you.
You can manage your card by:
- Updating name, age, and personal notes
- Setting your armed or OOC status
- Enabling or disabling the Scene Finder feature
Scene Finder
This feature helps match players based on shared roleplay preferences. When turned on, the HUD will alert you when another compatible player is nearby. The more you use it, the more accurate it becomes.
Jail and Hospital Timers
If you are arrested or admitted to the hospital, your HUD will display how much time your character should serve or recover. Following through and roleplaying this time builds your cred and gives others opportunities to engage with your character in vulnerable or high-stakes scenes.
Stay Connected to the World
The HUD is tied into a larger network of stories, updates, and player creativity. Post in the forums, write for the paper, submit photos, or join citywide events. All of it counts toward your reputation and story progression.
From weather updates to faction conflicts, your HUD keeps you connected to what is happening in Hathian and beyond.
