Gangs and Crews

Hathian 3 min read Updated Sep 2026

The streets of Hathian are carved into named ground, and every piece of it answers to whoever earned it last. A crew does not get handed a corner. It starts with a handful of people, proves it can hold together and tell stories worth telling, and fights its way onto the map one block at a time. The current map of who holds what is on the faction pages, updated live. This is how you get on it.

How a crew is born

Every gang starts small, a few members and an idea worth defending. That first stage is a trial: build stories, recruit, make enough noise that the city starts to care. Survive the trial and your crew earns its colors and the right to hold ground. From there the climb is public, every rung earned by the play itself, announced in the world’s own voice. No crew ever moves backward. A gang that stops showing up simply fades in front of everyone, its paint going grey and its ground releasing for the next crew hungry enough to take it.

Two ways to earn ground

Ground is earned two ways, and both are real. One is presence: show up on a block, write on it, run into rivals and cops on it, and in time it starts to answer to you. The other is force, a loud and public push, paint and muscle and a statement nobody misses. Force is faster, but the city charges for speed, and the police come for your crew afterward, hard, and for days. In a city where the law is its own kind of gang, going loud is a bet you make with your whole crew’s week.

The walls tell your story

A held wall is not a flag. It is a living page, carrying a line or two about what your crew has actually been doing on that ground, refreshed from your real scenes. Walk past a rival’s wall and you read their week in their own colors. Walk past your own and the city is telling your story to every stranger who passes. The walls are your crew’s recruitment poster, written by the world from the drama you create, and the best ones make someone stop and think about whose side they want to be on.

Home ground

Every crew holds one block as home, the ground where your story started, and home ground is sacred. It takes considerably more effort to overwrite a crew’s home than any other block they hold, because the city knows the difference between territory and identity. Choose your home block carefully and defend it with everything, because losing it means more than losing ground.

What it looks like

A Tuesday night. Your crew has been writing scenes on the same block for a week, deals and tension and two run-ins with a badge who has your number. The block’s walls repaint in your colors. Thursday, a rival crew answers. Wall after wall goes up in their tags overnight, and by morning the block has flipped. Your crew gets the word from the city itself, your mark was crossed, and the paint is still wet. Every member knows where the rival will be today, because you were just there yesterday. The police are already circling the rival for going loud, which means the rival is pinned, which means Friday night writes itself. That is the block war. It is a cycle of provocation and response, and the stories it generates are the ones the city talks about for months.

The live faction pages show who holds what and where the open ground is. An open block is a standing invitation to anyone with a crew and the nerve to paint it. The current gangs, their turf, and how to start your own are all there.
