Columtreal is where your character stops being an idea and becomes a person. You show up for the lectures and stay for everything else: the parties, the rivalries, the late nights, the friends you have not met yet. This is one corner of a living, gritty urban universe built by people who take stories seriously, and campus is the easiest way in. You do not need a major or a plan. You need to enroll and walk through the door.
Be anyone
Your character is yours to invent with no ceiling on it: the overachiever hiding a mess, the burnout with a secret, the transfer nobody can place, the one who came here running from something. Build them however you like and let the campus change them. This is the whole promise of the world, the freedom to be someone and the room to become someone else, and campus life is where that transformation happens fastest, in public, among people.
Something is always happening
Campus runs on a full calendar in both directions. Real academics to grow into by day, and a social scene that never quite settles by night: classes and workshops, parties spilling into the Row, rush weeks, game nights, study groups that turn into something else entirely. The schedule is alive, which means there is always a scene to walk into and always someone new to meet. You will never be short of a reason to log in, and you will rarely be short of company.
Getting in
Becoming a student starts with an application for CU student status. Once approved, you carry the campus as your character’s home, with the student groups and the run of the university, and you enroll each term at Admissions. You begin where everyone begins, as a freshman with everything ahead of you.
Grow into the community
Your character climbs from freshman toward alumni over time, and the climb is earned the way everything here is earned, by showing up and taking part. There is no shortcut, and that is the point: the rank is a record of a story your character actually lived. Alumni is graduation, the far end of a long arc, and reaching it means you found your people and your place along the way rather than grinding toward a number.
Going to class
Class is not homework here. It is a room full of people and a reason to be among them, and joining one is as simple as walking in while it is live. An instructor leads, the room dresses itself for the subject, and your attendance builds your standing as someone who shows up. The full detail of how a class plays, the chalkboard, the pop quizzes, the Dean’s List, lives in Going to Class under Campus Life.
The city is right there
Campus is not the whole world; it is the on-ramp to it. Columtreal sits at the edge of Hathian, and the same gritty universe stretches past the Row into the city and the bayou beyond, full of characters you have not met and stories you have not started. Your student status is a passport: intern at a questionable business, pick up a shift somewhere sketchy, follow a rivalry off campus and see where it goes. The more of the world you touch, the more people you meet, and the bigger your character’s story gets. And the longer you stay, the more this becomes a world you can put down roots in, with a place of your own and a name people know.
This is the ultimate creative collective, and campus is where you join it. Enroll, walk in, and start living. To understand the campus you are stepping into, read the Campus Life section. To carry your story into the wider worlds, the Field Manual shows you how they work.
