The houses hold power through loyalty, secrecy, and an appetite for drama that the campus feeds on, and the teams carry the school’s pride onto the field along with whatever darker business they conduct off it. Both are how you find your people on campus, and both will cost you something to belong to.
The houses
Columtreal’s sororities and fraternities operate out of antebellum houses on and near the Row, and each one carries its own mythology. Some lean into old-world elegance and use charm as a weapon. Some were built on Prohibition-era corruption and enforce loyalty with an iron grip. Some are co-ed and hide obsessions under intellectual curiosity, chasing forbidden knowledge and experiments that edge into the unthinkable. What they share is secrecy, internal hierarchy, and the understanding that membership is a contract, not a hobby. Rushing
Pledging a house is a social declaration: you are choosing a side, and the campus will react. Rush culture on the Row is competitive, political, and personal. The house you pledge decides who approaches you, who avoids you, and which rivalries you inherit before you have earned any of your own. Some pledges are welcomed warmly. Some are hazed in ways the administration would rather not know about. Either way, joining a house is one of the fastest ways to be pulled into the center of campus life, because the houses are where the drama concentrates and the Vine feeds most hungrily.
The teams
Athletics at Columtreal run on ambition, grit, and traditions the school does not print in any brochure. The teams carry the Looters name, a symbol of the town’s history, and each sport has its own culture beneath the scoreboard. Some teams whisper about rituals that explain their winning streaks. Some are proud of a curse they refuse to break. The cheerleading squad is widely understood to run more of the campus than any coach or dean, wielding charm and information as instruments of influence.
