Encounters in the Bayou

Backwaters 1 min read Updated Sep 2026

In the Backwaters, the Narrator takes its time. The encounters here are slower to arrive, stranger when they do, and harder to shake. The silence between them is part of the atmosphere, and when the Narrator finally speaks, the weight of the quiet is what makes it land.

Dark encounters in the bayou

The bayou’s darkness is patient. If you have opted in, the world finds someone aligned and sparks a scene that uses the isolation: remote docks, the woods around the asylum, the places where the parish runs out. The opt-in lives in the Field Manual under Encounters.

Guidance

When the Narrator moves you here, it pulls you toward the port’s live venues, a lantern in the dark rather than a neon sign. The scene that waits has the unhurried menace of a place where people drink slowly and remember everything.
