I have also always RPed that there is ferry between the two as well as a bus and a road. I feel like someone else mentioned that too me, but either way a ferry seems evocative anyway so I liked RPing that I take the ferry.
One suggestion – if you implement AI staff for places, it would be great if they could tell if someone was clocked in at the business and then turn off. To avoid a scenario where if someone enjoys tending bar or something, AI Simon at Lou’s doesn’t just serve all the drinks before they can type their post.

For work release, my thinking (as someone who likes prison RP) is that its tough when no one is there, it’s pretty boring obviously. So if there was some mechanism where you could leave and it not be unrealistic that you left could be helpful. If it’s hard getting people to RP at the prison, perhaps some sort of “work-release” punishment could be done, where people can serve their sentence on the weekends or something similar.
Someone (I forget who) was making something kind of like this awhile back but I think it’s gone. Louisiana has a large Vietnamese population ( https://64parishes.org/entry/vietnamese-in-louisiana ), so it would be cool if someone incorporated Vietnamese culture into something like this.
