Hi all! The topic of thought emotes/posts has been on my mind for some time and I thought it'd be interesting to hear how the community feels about it too. I searched through the forums for posts on this topic, but I didn't see one dedicated solely to it. More so, I noticed it was sprinkled into other topics.

I have been writing in SL for some time now and encountered a fair share of thought emotes/posts. The more that I see them, the more discouraged and restricted I start to feel as a typist. As much as I love reading and writing fluff, other typists writing about thinking things that aren't evident in body language or spoken aloud to the point where I feel like I don't have the ability to respond to them has been a struggle. I feel like sometimes it can give some explanation about the motivations and purpose of a character, but when paired with the opportunity for a response.

To be fair, I've definitely done it a few times myself, but it's something I'm trying to be cautious of. Is this a writer's craft thing? Is it opening a gate to metagaming? Is it fair? Is it unfair? I thought it'd be interesting to hear from other folks as to how they feel about them. I'd love to hear your perspective on thought emotes and hope you'll consider sharing too.
