Chapter 1
Carefully the clip is inspected and then put into the department issued sidearm. The wallet is stuffed in the back right pocket and the phone in the front. A stop in front of the mirror reveals everything to be in order, the badge, the uniform, hair, and shoes. Pristine and organized. Without a word the door is opened and the breeze of the Hathian evening drifts in through the portal. The door is shut tightly and the lock turned into place. And then?

A set of keys on the ground next to a syringe.

A car heard splashing down in the Taov pond before slowly sinking down into the murky, muddy bottom.

Did one of Hathian's finest meet with an unfortunate accident? Skip town to avoid a hard breakup? Or did something more intentional and devious happen, perhaps done by a former arrest?

What did you see tonight? What do you know? Will you shrug and move along without a second thought for a pig? Or show genuine sympathy for a true hero? Then again, maybe they just needed a vacation...
