The Hathian Picture House is proud to present it's debut showing; A Clockwork Orange.

Based on Anthony Burgess's disturbing novel about England in the totalitarian future, Malcolm McDowell portrays Alex, a Beethoven-loving, head-bashing punk who leads his gang of droogs on ultra-violent assaults--until he is captured by authorities and subjected to nasty behavior-modification therapy.

The British authorities considered the sexual violence extreme, furthermore, there occurred legal claims that the movie A Clockwork Orange had inspired true copycat crimes. Subsequently, Kubrick asked Warner Brothers to withdraw the film from British distribution.

The ban was vigorously pursued in Kubrick’s lifetime, only being lifted after his death in 1999. One art house cinema that defied the ban in 1993, and was sued and lost, is the Scala cinema at Kings Cross, London; the same premises of present-day Scala nightclub. Unable to meet the cost of the defense, the cinema club was forced into receivership.

Film will start at 4pm PDT Tuesday 4/12, with a repeat showing at 1pm Wednesday 4/13 for the non-U.S. players.
