OOC: In this thread I will be keeping a journal of her character development. For those interested you are welcome to read, obviously. Backstory is below for those of you reading.

Raised by her part white/part hispanic mother and black father Mya grew up on the outskirts of Hathian. She never fell victim to the crime and violence of the city. She worked hard in grade school and graduated Valedictorian. She was soon engaged to her high school sweetheart who turned out to be a scum in kings clothing and took all their possessions with him when he left.

Her parents hadn't spoken to her since a few days after high school graduation. When news of Hurricane Katrina was flooding the media they sent her uncle to evacuate her and her fiance.

While out of the city during the time of evacuation her fiance got involved in some serious business opportunities and offered for them to get married and not to return to Hathian ever again... but Mya didn’t want to be involved in his schemes, she had other things in mind. She didn't want to leave the only place she'd ever known as home and she wasn't exactly in love anymore either. Really, she wasn't sure if she ever was in love with more than the idea of his love. He was never very loving to her and was emotionally abusive... she was through being his toy and this was her chance to go back and make a life for herself. When they returned to the city to assess damage is when he took all their possessions and left in the middle of the night.

As every other obstacle she faced this didn’t stop her.. she was now more determined than ever to get her life in order for herself. In her pursuit of happiness she decided to apply to college. She didn’t have money to go far so Columtreal is where she would begin. Through applying for scholarships and financial aid she met Kate, a social worker, who quickly became Mya’s best friend. Kate helped her get food assistance and gave her a place to live.
