There seems to have been a lot of uproar recently about the CDRP chat and the confusion between Municipal Services and the general populace regarding how the 911 calls are supposed to function. I would like to clear up and/or suggest a change for this so that we can accomodate everyone to their satisfaction.

Not a single member of either Fire or PD answered this post for fear of being reprimanded for RPing in the CDRP chat channel, as has been done recently. As such, I don't even know if the call ever got answered. However it did spawn a great deal of conversation and conflict among the Municipal services. I, personally, was recently on the receiving end of that particular conversation because I was not aware of the ruling against RPing out 911 calls in the chat channel.

Seeing as how Ethaniel was online tonight, I took the opportunity to ask him about the situation and give my suggestion. The following is the log of that conversation:

Although there is no interactive RP allowed in the CDRP chat group, it doesn't mean that we can't have a means to actually RP out the 911 phone calls with the citizens of CD. It really wouldn't be hard and it doesn't even need to be an 'official' position.

What I suggest is to simply have an "operator" role, which anyone can occupy and simply has to state in Municipal chat that they're taking up the position when they log on, and dropping it when they log off. For example:

Aven Breen has come online
CD Municipal Network: Aven Breen: Hey guys, I'm online and will work Dispatch tonight.

Unless informed that someone else has already taken up dispatch, I would then be the assigned person to respond to any 911 calls that come in over CDRP. Once the call comes across, I would send an In character IM to the person and play out the call. After I get all the pertinent information, I would then use the in-sim Radio system to dispatch necessary services: such as PD and/or FDH.

This would accomodate both the need to keep CDRP chat clear of most spam, as well as accomodate the desire of some of the Hathian population to actually RP out their 911 calls. It would be a happy medium.

This also does not have to be an immediate Yes or No suggestion. This could be put to the sim as a whole and find out if this is how they would like to have the system work, or if they think it should just stay as is. The choice is ultimately up to all of you, I'm simply suggesting a means to make everyone happy.
