BACKGROUND: Serpentss Den has the appeal of being both a strip club and a brothel. It's my belief that either aspect can become underutilized without proper balance. Ideally, the storyline for Serpents Den that I'd like to move toward is one where the stripping is a showcasing of goods for the brothel to ensure they feed off each other in a continuous cycle. In the past, the nature of the club has left the performers with little autonomy and naturally they fell into a disempowered and subservient role. While on the foundation of things I'd still like to pursue a storyline that centers power struggles, drugs, and unethical decisions.
An example of this would be to make personalized events where an individual performer is given the opportunity to become the star of the night. This would incentivize the new hires to vye for the customer’s attention when the reward is being showered in praise, money, fame, drugs, and more freedoms. Creating a hierarchy amongst the staff where the seasoned performers are given more leniency, perks, and the ability to guide the newer hires will hopefully inspire a continual loop of roleplay that feels like everyone is always working toward a goal.
While Serpent's Den will always thrive off of walk-up roleplay where the staff sought out their roles, it would also be ideal to work on events where guests are encouraged to sip drugged wine and have catered snacks in hopes they will spill their secrets to the performers for the night. This would engage not only existing staff but create the opportunity to rope those willing into a darker storyline of human trafficking and blackmail.
The Silent Serpent Syndicate is the driving force behind everything in Laveau. My hope is to weave their presence into the overarching storytelling of Serpent's Den in a way that feels natural but creates curiosity about the figures that operate from the bayou's shadows. Glimpses of that power can be seen in how the club will respond to the LSD that serves to enforce the hold aforementioned Syndicate has on Backwaters in its entirety. Whether it be free drinks, dances, or occasional access to the girls of their choosing without cost, their presence will be felt and reinforced at every turn. My character is currently intending to pursue a PsyD Degree which gives her the unique advantage of applying her knowledge of psychology into Serpent's Den. Staff and customers alike will be profiled and given a file with pertinent information pertaining to their person. While Honey isn't physically the strongest and emotionally volatile at times, her skills of perception and ability to anticipate the needs of others serve as her strong suits in this role. She will always mold her approach to match the individual needs of the staff which in turn will hopefully create trust and camaraderie.
UNIQUE: Serpent's Den by nature will always remain a pillar of the Backwaters businesses. By the very nature of the club, there will likely always be a draw to the neon lights and sin that awaits inside. However, I don't feel that inherent draw is to be taken for granted. My goal isn't just to pull players toward the business but rather give them a reason to return and use it as a foundation to weave their own stories around. The description for Serpent's Den said it best in that a large appeal of the club is the ability to “explore your wildest fantasies.” Having a diverse cast of characters amongst the staff is amongst the first steps to make this dream a reality. While other businesses in Backwaters can either be dance or sex focused, neither truly encapsulates the unique appeal of having the performers act as just that — putting on themed shows or catering to specific kinks in real time with an audience.
EXPERIENCE: I've had the pleasure of portraying Honey as a manager of Serpent's Den for coming on eight months now. During that time, I've learned a lot both from the previous figures of the club who've been kind enough to impart some of their wisdom onto me, but also from trial and error. I'm still learning as I go. I do believe one quality I have that I see in many of the leads I admire in Backwaters is a willingness to learn, adapt, and grow. I'm a firm believer in accepting criticism, taking the time to sit with it, and moving on, rather than letting it stifle you. My sincerest hope is that I can foster a space where people feel comfortable enough to come to me not only with the good but the bad as well and know that they're safe to do so without judgement or criticism. While I'm relatively new to Second Life roleplay compared to many of the community members, I've been an active part of other roleplay communities for a good portion of my life. I hope to apply what I learned during those experiences to this role as well. One of the most important things I've learned in my time in roleplay forums is that we are all equal whether you have been here for years or mere days.
IDEAS: New players are as valued to me as veterans in roleplay communities. Very often they breathe new life into stories that have felt repetitive or stale. I have come to find during my time in Backwaters that due to their inexperience with writing in the close knit setting they can, at times, have a unique outlook on things and view storylines from angles I wouldn't have conceived of. My goal as lead would be to nurture that curious spirit in those that wander into Serpent's Den looking for a story to tell. We can work together to help them find a place they can carve out amidst the established storylines to call their own.
OTHER: For a long time, this particular event is where I struggled. To me, it should set the tone of how the business will operate under Honey’s care while simultaneously being engaging and fun to attend. I propose that the event to kick things off for this new era of Serpent’s Den is all about stars. The performers are truly what makes the club what it is and an event that not only thanks them for their continued support but also invites new players to try their hand at bringing their characters onstage would be my personal ideal. Amateur and professional performers alike will be asked to take the stage while onlookers will be given sheets of rhinestone star stickers. Each time a girl impresses them, they can place a sticker on her. At the end of the night, those with the most stars will be awarded a prize. The winners, as well as all participants, will be asked to return as performers if they so choose. Free drinks, catered food, and designer drugs supplied by businesses in collaboration with Serpent's Den can turn this from a small event into a full blown party. As always, I'm open to refining this idea and working with the rest of the Serpent's Den family to make this the best it can be. |
