[center:u6cttaz9]What are the Roles offered within
Hathian Civil Services?[/center:u6cttaz9]

Lawyer

Lawyers within HCS are considered Civil Servants. This means they are employed by the State of Louisiana. A big part of being a Lawyer in the real world working as a Civil Servant is being a Court Appointed Attorney. However in Hathian there is no permanent Court System as the HPD system runs charges and infractions automatically.

That doesn’t mean however that you will be sitting around twiddling your thumbs. Given that Hathian is a poor defunct city plenty of Private Citizens and Businesses can ask for your aid as well.

Some suggestions to get role play going are :

• Offering Legal Aid to Businesses when they’re accused of doing something illegal, such as selling horse meat.
• Work with Social Workers to do background checks on possible foster or adoptive families.
• Prosecute or Defend any junkies a Social Worker may bring in for help.

Keep in mind the types of characters you can offer legal aid to are only as limited as you make them. Some more realistic examples of people you can represent are, poor people, drug addicts, people with mental illness, victims of domestic violence.

You’ll find lots of stories in the Hathian Observer you can find possible cases for your character to legitimately offer their assistance.

Always keep in mind that as a Civil Servant you are working for the state. This doesn’t restrict your character from taking on private clients. However you can’t put those private clients in the Civil Services forum

If you’re unsure where to take the position take a look around Google for ideas. A useful starting point is here : Types of Free Legal Services

Social Worker

Social Workers in Hathian can work with an array of people. They are the go between for Foster families and Biological parents for the most part in Hathian. However Social Work branches over a few areas that people playing in The Crack Den can take advantage of.

Financial Aid : Offering Government payouts to people who qualify.

Youth Allowance : This is for people aged sixteen and over who are attending either highschool or College and are unable to work.
Weekly Payment : $200.15

Child Benefits : This is for people who simply pop out a baby. That is the only qualification.
Per Baby : $2000

Income Assistance : This is for people who are on low income jobs and have little hope of doing anything better.
Weekly Payment : $115.55

Aiding the Disadvantaged

The disadvantaged can include, Immigrants, homeless people, drug addicts, people with terminal illness.

What can you do for them :

• Direct them to cheap or free housing : This can involve asking for volunteers via the Observer.
• Help them get a job : Speak to local businesses.
• Place them in a drug rehabilitation process : This step is a great way to involve a lawyer and people at Hathian General Hospital!

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

SNAP is a Government funded project that provides low income households [or people claiming to be in a low income household] with money specifically for groceries. The money is provided on a card, like an eftpos card. It is able to be spent at participating grocery stores.

Participating Grocers :

• Berthier Street Baker
• Butcher
• Clam Convenience Store

Card Amounts :

• Single Person : $100
• Couple : $160
• Family : $210

Probation Officer

This job is one that works very closely with the Hathian Police Department. When a Prisoner is let out they may be required to attend Parole once a week, once a fortnight or once a month. This should be decided between the Criminal, Officer and yourself. The time is dependant on the Criminal players availability, the Officers opinion based on the charges and your availability.

Action to take when someone misses a Probation Appointment :

If the Criminal Player has contacted you saying they aren't available for the RP but that their character would have attended you need to take that into account.

If the Criminal Player doesn’t let you know this you can ICly assume they’ve missed the appointment and report them to the Police. From there it is up to the Police to take charge and seek out the Criminal in question and charge them again.

If a court date is set for this; because all players want to participate; your character may be a witness. From there your character can continue on as parole officer when the prisoner gets out of prison again.

Bail Enforcement Agent

This position is complex in itself. A Bail Enforcement Agent is otherwise known as a ‘Bounty Hunter’ in popular culture. In Hathian however our Criminal finding folk prefer ‘Bail Enforcement Agent’.

This position is better explained here : viewtopic.php?f=41&t=6499

Becoming a Bail Enforcement Agent is not as simple as clicking on the HELP WANTED sign. In order to become a Bail Enforcement Agent you will need to contact the current BEA Lead in World.
