This is a guide for those lawyers in CD who want to know how the process of getting a case from open to close. Keep in mind this is role play and not the real world so nothing is going to be as in detail as you might figure it.

IMPORTANT
It should be decided OOCly first whether the person being prosecuted (Person B below) is willing to be found guilty and therefore pay whatever punishment. This is inclusive of jail time. If the person does not want their character to be found guilty than the case will be assumed to be lost or dismissed by the judge for a mutually agreed reason.

1) Person A contacts you wanting to sue Person B.

2) You contact Person B or Person B's lawyer and inform them that they or their client is being sued and what for.

3) Gather any evidence Person A has against Person B. If you would like. You may ask a Detective from HPD to join in on the case, make sure you keep in regular contact with them. Keep in mind this will make the case RP run longer.

4) Tell Person B's lawyer what evidence has been found and discuss with them what you both feel would be an appropriate punishment.
•In some cases, it may be clear that Person B needs to be reported immediately to the police. If this is the case you and Person A should visit the HPD together and report Person B for whatever crime was committed.
• At this stage you are no longer needed and the HPD will use their system to find and book Person B.

5) Discuss with Person A what you have decided will be done regarding Person B. ie : reporting them to police, monetary payout etc.

6) Settle. This can be done in or out of court depending on the availability of a court in sim.

In Court

• Find a judge.
• Decide on a time that works for all players.
• Role play on that day based on the OOCly decided outcome. Make sure all parties are aware of this outcome before the RP starts.

Out of Court

• Decide on a time that works for all players.
• Meet at the CS Office
• Discuss what each client would like the outcome to be.

7) The end. The outcome was either successful or not. Either way it is a matter of you doing background stuff and the involved players NPCing that money was transferred, apologies were written and or, people were put in jail.

This works both ways. Once the Defence for Person B has had their first meeting they, the Defense Attorney should make sure to contact Person A's Attorney, the Prosecution if no contact has been made yet.

If you have any suggestions on improving this please let me know.
