( Warning, this is a mess because I’m tired and a bit flustered. )

I’ve wanted to write this for a long time. I’ve held back in making this thread for obvious reasons, but recent comments have inspired me to do so. This is very hard for me to word and it’s a discussion that may or may not be needed, so here goes nothing.

Everyone talks about everyone here in Crack Den. Players speculate why another player may be role-playing a particular storyline. They may resent you OOCly for aborting a child in-character, or they may be offended by racism, child abuse, animal abuse, etc. Sometimes failed relationships PISS us OFF and we end up blocking our favorite role-play partner! Quite a lot of us have our own little pet peeves about specific subjects when it comes to role-play. Some of us are more open about it than others. Some of us can HANDLE it better than others.

Around a month ago, I was told by a few people that my character is seen as a ‘victim whore’. That she is raped very, very often and that I as a player seek this sort of role-play out.

I don’t.

I do not relentlessly pursue this sort of storyline. Each and every time it’s happened, it has fallen right into my lap because the story has led to that. Voltiel has done many, many terrible things. And rape disturbs her and rattles her greatly. It’s probably the WORST thing you can do to her. People ask me ‘is it fine to do this to her?’ I say yes, because I enjoy rape role-play. Not because it turns me on, not because I enjoy playing a victim, NOT because I am attention seeking.

I am a rape survivor in real life.

I am opening up about it. Exploring the emotions that come with rape and the recovery that is needed after it are genuinely cathartic to me. People have dissed on me for it. I can’t speak for everyone, and I can’t determine why people would be triggered and/or offended by certain subjects, because everyone is different. If someone lashes out because of something that OOCly offends them, try to talk to them rather than make them angrier. Tell them to tone things down or ask them why they’re offended.

I have almost snapped a few times but I’ve always come to the conclusion that people will think what they want, but a majority of those people don’t know me personally and probably never will. For all they know, I could just LIKE the attention rape manifests. It's true, some of it can be fun and emotional to write. But hey, there's more to it.

TL;DR, I role-play rape now and then and people have been bitter towards me for my character being frequently abused. It used to be a trigger for me and I realized things. People get offended without knowing much about the player.

In this thread, feel free to post about your pet-peeves, triggers, experiences regarding this sort of thing, or your reasons for role-playing a heavy subject. If you’re not offended by ANYTHING at ALL and can separate yourself from being offended, then you’re good at being detached from your character. This is no offense to the people that role-play that way. I envy that sort of control! Those who can’t detach themselves aren’t bad role-player’s. They are passionate in their own way.

I don't expect to get many responses but I do feel that we could be more understanding and deal with this shit in a more mature manner.
