Crack Den rules create an unfair game.
Do you think it’s fair to have different OOC rights to consent with limits depending on your choice of character?
So, in crack den we are all allowed to have limits, we can choose reasonably what we consent to because we could be uncomfortable with a scene or because dramatic physical changes and/or the death of a character costs real life money. There is a cost behind every character on the screen.
Its fair that we get the ability to say ‘no, my character isn’t going to die.’ I’m sure there are many people who play in CD who have a no death limit or state that discussion is a must OOC beforehand. It has a valid place. It is assumed that we all have that right.
Limits should never provide an unfair advantage and since we can all decide to have a no death limit its fair. We can decide…
But that’s not the case. It isn’t fair. Its only fair is you’re a human character RPing with another human character.
The rules state there should never be an unfair advantage with limits but… there is.
What if you were not allowed to have a no death limit but the other player could decide to have one?
What if someone told you, that because of the type of character you created, you were not allowed to have a no death limit? The other person you’re RPing with can... But you? No. You aren’t allowed.
Your ability to OOC refuse to consent to character death is formally non-existent. By the rules enforced you’re breaking the rules if you try to claim that limit. The others can, but you can’t.
All the cash you spent on your character, all the hours you put into building up their story, same as any other character in CD… The same effort and value… But you are not allowed the same rights.
Why? Because according to an unwritten rule not provided to anyone on joining CD or in the guidelines... animal characters are not allowed a no death limit…
It is stated nowhere. The rules stated when joining are:
“non-human animals are restricted to domestic animals like cats, dogs, and birds.”
It isn’t stated anywhere on sim or on the website that you can’t have a no death limit. It isn’t stated when you join up and nobody tells you about it when you get accepted as a full citizen of crack den. You’re none the wiser.
I was told mid RP.... that it was “forgotten” about. How many more rules are there that create an unfair advantage for humans in crack den that will come out during a RP out of thin air?
Is it that previous players may have may have played unrealistic animals? Does that mean that other players are given less OOC rights as another? That doesn’t happen in human characters, why does it with animal characters?
If people go around shooting guns like lunatics, are guns going to be removed? No.
If some rogue humans/trolls go around killing people and refusing to die, are no death limits going to removed for all human players? I don’t see that happening. You just boot the trolls and enforce roleplay standards.
Apparently its ok to give humans an unfair advantage over animals. Do you think that makes crack den a fair playing field?
I’d say that its power gaming and allows players with human characters the ability to metagame against animal characters.
A dog can maul, a cat can scratch, a gerbil could chew your nuts off. A human with a gun is far more lethal and can kill shot in a two-part post. But an animal is more dangerous and so must be allowed to die?
Do you think its fair to have different OOC rights to consent depending on your choice of character?
Yes, you can try to avoid, and friends may not uphold you to killing off your character. But the unfairness shouldn’t be there in the first place and it puts limitations on characters joining this community, ones they unwillingly walk into and later can’t avoid.
The rules should be fair for all characters permitted in CD and they should be made easily available to all members. If it isn't available to be consented to it technically doesn't exist and it shouldn't be enforced or expected of players.
There shouldn't be an OOC rule which gives one greater rights than the other purely based on species.
