As a new player I've found it very difficult to find people willing to interact, that's compounded by the fact that players will stand afk in the same spot for hours on end. Having to wait 10-15 minutes to see if they respond so that players can write their characters life story just to tell me they don't care what my character is doing really doesn't help either.

More often or not, my character isn't even acknowledged with more than a couple of words while information is thrown at me which is completely irrelevant to my character because they simply wouldn't know you're a badass who's had a long day and doesn't care. I feel like I have to write similar responses to at least seem respectful of the effort when I just want to roleplay my character's actions and speech because at the end of the day, that's actually what matters. People don't know what your character did yesterday, what they're thinking about etc.

I like to roleplay passively to try to initiate some sort of interaction as I feel it's a good way of inserting yourself politely into ongoing scenes or to start one, rather than interrupt the flow of whatever is going on. I've definitely had a few positive interactions though but mostly as a new player, I just feel ignored (as I said people are either afk, leave without responding, or log off) and a lot of the long winded responses, just seem unnecessary to me.

Am I just being bitter?
