( Backstory for Katya Ivanova Volskaya )

Katya Ivanova Volskaya was born on August 16th, 1995, to parents Ivan Andreovich Volskaya and Valentina Dimitrinova Volskaya in Norilsk, Russia. A heavily polluted city built upon the mining of nickel deposits. Her father, Ivan, worked at a large smelting facility while her mother stayed home and took care of young Katya, their only child.

Ivan adored his daughter. He was seeing her as the one thing that brought him happiness in life. Each day, Ivan would come home exhausted, dirty, and worn from work to find Katya waiting to jump into his arms. He would always see her and smile, knowing that he would do anything for her. “ Ты моё сокро́вище! Ты де́лаешь меня́ таки́м счастли́вым! Всё, что мне ну́жно – э́то ты!  “ ( “You are my treasure! You make me so happy! All I need is you! “ ) he would say to hear each day as he lifted her into his arms. On her 10th birthday, Ivan would give Katya a necklace with a small picture of the two of them. Slipping it over her head, he would say to her. “ Теперь, даже если мы друг от друга, мы всегда будем вместе! “ ( “ Now, even if we are apart, we will always be together! “ ) Katya cherished it and would spend hours looking at it as she waited for her father to return home once more.

Meanwhile, Valentina became somewhat jealous of all the attention Katya received from her husband. The marriage between Ivan and Valentina had slowly grown cold over the years, and it was no secret that Ivan had strayed off with other women that walked the streets of Norlisk at night. The lack of attention and affection and the knowledge that her husband had been unfaithful was a catalyst for her growing jealous of Katya. She saw Katya as the reason her husband had lost interest in her. Before becoming pregnant and giving birth to their child, Valentina was the sparkle in Ivan’s eyes. She was his treasure and sole want and need. Pregnancy had caused Valentina to gain weight, and it was then that she could feel Ivan beginning to slip away from her. Blaming Katya, Valentina began to become sullen and ever more resentful. Feeling that she would still be number one in her husband's eyes if she had not given birth to the child.

Years pass, and things continue to get worse for the husband and wife. Ivan began coming home later and later from work. His money spent on other women and liquor had the family in a financial crisis. The fighting and arguments between Ivan and Valentina grew louder and lasted for hours. Valentina, growing ever more disillusioned, began to take out her anger and frustration on her daughter. When Ivan would be late getting home, she would start to push and shove Katya, screaming at her the entire time that this was her fault. If she had not been born, none of this would be happening. Eventually, the pushing and shoving turned into punching, kicking, and slapping.

Katya would eventually end up left crying in her room after being tormented by her mother. There, she would lay in her bed, looking at the necklace her father had given her. Life would continue on this way for Katya until shortly after her 14th birthday. Katya’s father became ill from the exposure to the pollution that contained massive amounts of radioisotopes strontium-90 and cesium-137 and the metals nickel, copper, cobalt, lead, and selenium; and by gases such as nitrogen and carbon oxides, sulfur dioxide, phenols, and hydrogen sulfide. A year later, he would die, leaving Katya and her mother to fend for themselves.

Times would be hard, and the two would struggle to survive. Her mother had never held employment previously. In a city built around the mining and smelting of metals, it would not be easy if not possible to find work. Again, Katya’s mother turned her anger and frustrations onto her daughter. Cornering Katya in her room, Valentina would scream out in a rage, “ Вы проблема! Если бы тебя не было рядом, ничего бы этого не случилось! “ ( “ You are the problem! If you were not around, none of this would have happened! “ ) Grabbing a broken broom handle, she would then begin to beat Katya until the teenage girl lay crying, battered, and bloodied in her bed.

Months pass, bills run late, and the house they lived in caught fire and burned to the ground.  Unable to find work in Norlisk and left out in the cold, Katya and her mother decided to move to Dudinka. A small port city approximately 50 miles east of Norilsk. Having no transportation mode, or the money to buy a bus or train ticket, they would wait until a train had stopped in the city to bring supplies to the mining facilities before hiding inside one of the empty cars and hitching a ride to Dudinka.

The train ride was relatively short, which was good considering Katya and her mother had little shelter from the cold Russian winter inside the uninsulated boxcar. As the train pulled into the station, the two disembarked and began their search for protection. The two would take shelter in abandoned boxcars around the trainyard by night. They found food by scavenging the trash cans outside of the city establishments by day. Begging random people on the streets occasionally provided enough for a hot beverage, but little did it improve their situation. The struggle was even worse for Katya, as her mother rarely shared anything she happened to come by. Leaving the teenage girl to mostly fend for herself.

A few weeks passed before Valentina would find work at a port cleaning the offices around the docks at night. The job did not pay well. If lucky, it would cover the cost of a small apartment for the two. Valentina even contemplated leaving her daughter out in the cold to die due to the lack of income. However, she changed her mind figuring the girl could still be of some use to her in some way. Food was going to continue to be hard to come by without finding a way to make more money. So it was not long till desperation began to force Katya’s mother to turn to alternate income methods.

Being a port city meant that crews from ships that stopped to unload and take on cargo filled Dudinka. That meant there were a lot of men in need of a way to fill their sexual desires. At first, Katya’s mother would attempt to prostitute herself allowing men to have their way with her for a few quick rubles in the back of a truck or inside one of the vacant offices at night. Valentina would also bring men home with her, and Katya would witness her mother being used and abused for money. However, it still was not enough to pay the bills and keep food on the table. Again desperation pushed Valentina toward a darker path.

A year had passed, and Katya and her mother continued to struggle.  At this point, Valentina decided to invite a few of the men she found at the dock to have their way with her daughter. The men's attention and desires quickly turned to the now 16-year-old Katya. Porcelain skin, red hair, green eyes, long legs, and unspoiled Katya would soon find herself becoming the unwilling solution to the problems facing her and her mother. Seeing revenge on her daughter for all she blamed her for, Valentina would begin to allow men to do unspeakable things to her for money.

Katya had survived the lethal pollution of Norilsk. She had survived going days without food and shelter. Now Katya would find herself having to survive the onslaught of daily forced sex with grown drunken men to which her mother had sold her. Each night, she would do what she could to fight them off, and each night she would end up battered, beaten, and broken before being used for little more than the next day's food.

Her father’s loss, the constant torment from her mother, the beatings, and the men coming into her room nightly began to take its toll on Katya. The once bright and happy girl had become distraught with how her life was going and felt trapped. The only small glimmer of hope she could cling to and that brought her any form of happiness was the necklace her father gave her. She often looked at it while lying in her bed, speaking to it as if she talked to her father. “ Почему тебе пришлось ехать, отец? Почему ты оставил меня здесь страдать? “ Meaning “ Why did you have to go, father? Why did you leave me here to suffer? “ Katya said as she clutched the necklace tightly. A tear slowly rolling down her cheek as she spoke.

Alone in their apartment, while her mother worked, Katya would be startled by a loud banging at the door. “ Я знаю, что ты там! Открой дверь, маленькая шлюха! " ( “ I know you are in there! Open the door you little whore! " ) a mans voice shouted from the other side of the door. “ Уходи! Оставь меня в покое! “ ( “ Go away! Leave me alone! “ ) Katya yelled back at the man. Angered by her response, the man began to kick at the door. The door was old, and the hinges that secured it to the frame could not hold it in place against the man’s assault.  It only took a few kicks for the door to fall and for the man to stumble drunkenly into the apartment.  “ Вот ты где! Маленькая шлюха! Ты будешь платить! “ ( “ There you are! You little whore! You're going to pay! “ ) the man exclaimed to her as he turned to come after her.

Katya did her best to run as she tried to make it past the man and out the open doorway. However, the man was large, and he quickly blocked her from escaping by moving himself into the opening. Grabbing Katya by her shirt, the man picked her up before throwing her down onto the kitchen floor. “ Как ты думаешь, маленькая шлюшка? “ ( “ Where do you think you are going little whore? “ ) the man said to her as he quickly moved to climb on top of her. Katya tried to get back to her feet before the man could get to her but could not and is knocked back to the floor when the man’s weight can come down upon her. Struggling, Katya did her best to push the man off from her, but his size and weight made it impossible. While sitting on top of her, the man began to tare away at the shirt Katya wore. The shirt fabric tore away, leaving her naked and exposed.

As the man began to undo his pants, Katya continued to struggle in her attempt to free herself. She clawed at the man’s face with her nails, gouging one of his cheeks in the process. The sudden pain would cause the man to grow angrier. A small trickle of blood ran down the man’s face from the scratches Katya has caused as the man stood up from her. He then returned Katya’s defiant actions by kicking her in the side. The kick would send her into the legs of the kitchen table, knocking it over along with everything that had been upon it. Plates and glasses crashed onto the floor and shattered, sending shards of ceramic and glass everywhere, along with a few utensils that slid across the floor. Katya screamed out in pain as she grasped at her side. Regaining the advantage over his victim, the man unzipped his pants and pulled his erect penis from inside. He then began to reach down and grab her legs, attempting to spread them apart. Again, Katya did her best to defy the man of having his way with her. She kicked at his hands as he attempted to grab hold of her legs. Her kicking infuriated the man even more, and he again used his weight and size to subdue the girl.

Katya’s kicks and flailing were not enough to stop the man from getting on top of her once more, and the man would grab her by the throat and begin to strangle her. “ Давай посмотрим, сколько ты ссоришься, когда я тебя убью! “ ( Let's see how much of a fight you put up when I  fucking kill you! ) he said to her as his hands gripped tighter around the girl’s throat. Time was running out for Katya. Her strength could not match the man’s, and she grew desperate as she was losing consciousness. Reaching around her, she frantically searched for something to aid her. As luck would have it, she was able to find a fork on the floor near her.

Katya’s desperation quickly turned into anger as she grabbed hold of the utensil. Clutching it in her hand, she would summon all the rage and hate she had and use it to thrust the fork upward, stabbing the man in his right eye. The man reeled backward and fell to the floor while clutching his eye as he screamed out in agony. Having been released from the attacker’s clutches, Katya gasped for air before attempting to regain herself.  The man was still down, writhing on the floor both from being drunk and from the pain he was experiencing from the fork sticking into his right eye as Katya stood up. Rage burned like an inferno inside of her chest, and her heart pounded in her ears. For once in her life, she would not be the victim.

Grabbing a shard of glass from the floor, Katya moved to the man who still lay in pain only a few feet away. “ Давай посмотрим, сколько ты ссоришься, когда я тебя убью. “ ( “ Let's see how much of a fight you put up when I  fucking kill you. “ )she would say to him in a low growl like voice. She then would kick the man in his side, effectively rolling him onto his back before jumping on top of him. Her hands tightly squeezed the shard of glass, and a trickle of blood began to flow from her palm. Unphased by the pain, she used the fragment to stab the man over and over. Each thrust of the makeshift weapon giving her a release and satisfaction never felt before. Blood splattered and slung all over her naked body until she was covered as she sat upon the man opening his chest more and more with each strike.

The rush of power that she felt at that moment would change Katya forever. For so long, she had been on the receiving end of everyone else’s wrath. Now, those that did her wrong would be on the receiving end of her lust for revenge. They would pay. They would suffer. They would die. She would be the angel of death sent from the fiery depth of hell to take the souls of the damned.

Satisfied with her former attacker’s lack of breathing or movement, Katya stood up from his lifeless body. Her breathing was rapid, and she looked down at the mess she had made with a smile.  Dropping the shard of glass that had been her weapon next to the man’s corpse, Katya would then wipe her face with her hand. The open wound from the glass on her hand smearing more blood across her face as she did it.

Katya could hear the sound of the snow crunching under the tires of a car pulling up outside, and she turned to face the door. A few moments later, her mother would enter their apartment with a stunned look upon her face. Valentina’s eyes took in the sight of the dead body on the floor and the blood-covered naked body of her daughter. The scene in front of her left her speechless as she gazed upon Katya. Without a word, the teen would turn and retrieve the same shard of glass she had used to kill her attacker. Slowly, she then turned back to her mother, who remained standing in the doorway before saying “ Ты следующий.” ( “ You’re next. “ ) with another low growl.

Police arrived the next day to find the apartment door was broken and was a clear sign of a forced entry. Inside, surrounded by pools of coagulated blood, they found Valentina’s cold, stiff corpses and the man who had attacked Katya. The man with his chest ripped open from multiple stab wounds, and a fork stuck in his eye. He also was naked from the waist down, and someone had cut off his penis. Valentina was naked with her throat slit, eyes cut out, and the man's penis lodged in her open mouth and throat. On the walls, written in blood, was the word revenge. Outside they found bloodied footprints in the snow leading off into the woods just outside of the city. Katya, however, was never seen again. Some say she went off into the woods and died. When a body would turn up here and there, others would say it was Katya and that she had returned to seek revenge for those who did her wrong.

No one knows for sure, and a government inquiry into the matter only turned up one possible lead. An employee at the airfield in Norilsk had seen a woman with a similar description to Katya’s boarding a small plane. However, the aircraft nor the woman was ever found……..
