Backstory

Seaside Afterschool Camp was a gritty institution that had been a fixture in the seedy underbelly of Hathian for decades. Located near the coast of Louisiana, this small oasis was home to inner-city youth with troubled pasts, who had nowhere else to turn to after school hours. The teachers who worked there were hardened veterans of the streets, who knew all too well the dangers that lurked outside its walls.

In the early days, Seaside had been a place where kids could come and participate in organized activities, but it had quickly become something more. The teachers had seen the need for a refuge for runaway kids, and had transformed the camp into a safe haven for those who needed it most.

As the years went by, Seaside became known as a place where troubled youth could go to find a way out of the grim realities of Hathian’s streets. The teachers there were no-nonsense, but they were also compassionate. They knew that the kids who came through their doors had been dealt a bad hand in life, and they were determined to give them a fighting chance.

But Seaside was more than just a shelter for wayward youth. It was also a place where they could learn the skills they needed to survive in the unforgiving urban jungle. The teachers at Seaside taught the kids how to fight, how to hustle, and how to stay one step ahead of the law. It wasn’t pretty, but it was necessary.

And yet, for all its rough edges, Seaside was a place of hope. The teachers there believed that every kid had potential, no matter how damaged they may have seemed. They pushed them to be their best, to strive for something more than what the streets had to offer.

Today, Seaside still stands, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It’s not pretty, and it’s certainly not safe, but for the kids who call it home, it’s a lifeline in a city that can be cruel and unforgiving. And for the teachers who work there, it’s a reminder that no matter how dark the world may seem, there is always a glimmer of hope.
