HPD: Getting Started
Introduction
Serving the City of Hathian, the Hathian Police Department is long steeped in corruption with numerous officers both high-and-low ranking involved in bribery and even more serious offenses such as rape to murder.
Keep in mind, if you are new to role-play in the Crack Den or unwilling to keep an open mind, then this is NOT the group for you.Characters who are unwilling to partake or even turn a blind eye to the corruption will likely NOT rise in rank and possibly face dismissal.
Prerequisites
To join the HPD, you must meet the following requirement:
- Must be a member of the “CD Civilian” group
- Have at least two weeks experience role-playing in Crack Den
- Have membership on the community forums (http://thecrackden.com/discuss)
- Must not be actively affiliated to any criminal groups (even alts are highly discouraged to prevent any chance of metagaming)
Membership
You may apply by clicking on the application sign in the lobby of the HPD, reading and agreeing to the policies outlined on it, and submit responses to the questions asked on it for review.
Every applicant, if accepted, will begin with the rank of “Rookie”.
New Recruits: Getting Started
- All members of the “Hathian Police Department”group should have access to the secured doors in the station; if not, contact Nadir Taov and request for access along with the date you were invited to the group.
- Purchase a your official HPD uniform package in the station locker room.
- Click on the 2-way radio nearby to get the Hathian emergency channel HUD and wear it at all times when on-duty.
- Introduce yourself to a fellow officers and supervisors in-character and on the forums. It is your job to be proactive and social amongst the group; this is an important factor for promotions.
- A Corporal or Sergeant can help you pair up with a partner;it is a requirement for all Rookies to establish a partner(s) and work the streets together when patrolling the city streets.
Get Promoted
Obtaining rank through the Hathian Police Department is possible by taking and passing a written examination. These examinations will consist of police orientated questions, read comprehension and/or visual questions. Officers will then be promoted based on their examination score.
NOTE: New members will not be promoted simply for a role-play story they want to conduct; all players start at the bottom for the sake of fairness for all.
Rookies (Grade 1) >> Officer I(Grade 2)
All officers new to ithe HPD start out with the rank Rookie (Grade 1) and are promoted to Officer I (Grade 2) after their probationary status is over.
Officer I (Grade 2) >> Corporal (Grade 3)

Daily Conduct
When on-duty, you should be in uniform, partnered up (doesn’t need to be your designated one), and patrol the streets. It is highly recommended to interact with civilians of all sorts on the streets, especially newcomers. Feel free to abuse your authority with them by questioning them, unnecessarily frisking them, to even more deviant abuses of authority.
You may also cross-RP respond to calls to adjacent CD communities such as Columtreal University or Seaside High/Elementary – be sure you have read the specialized rules and follow them before proceeding.
Remember, it’s on you to uphold the corrupt reputation of the HPD!
Making Arrests
There are more creative ways to serve justice than to simply haul someone in; think outside the “good cop” box, be discrete about it (not in plain sight of the public!), and chances are you’ll rise quicker than others on the force.
If it is absolutely not possible, you may arrest individuals and bring them in to the station. When you do so, you must file a report on the Police Blotter subforum and either continue your role-play in the jails below,or set them loose on bond.
Excessive force and police brutality is what the HPD is known for; it is on you to maintain it!
Immerse Yourself
It’s all about immersive role-play. Police Officers are very professional people, even if hardened and steeped in corruption. The following is highly recommended:
- Read the thorough guides available on the Crack Den Wiki (search “police”) for common radio codes, procedures, and general code of conduct.
- Do NOT powergame! Officers are welcome to abuse their power on civilians and criminals, but that is only done so through fair and proper role-play. Those officers who are reported to CD admins for powergaming may be dismissed.
- Don’t be bound by rules and regulations; have fun with the role and play SMART to gain promotions and creative stories with other.
- Common sense goes a long way!
