This thread is a result of near every "good" cop having so many issues getting used to HPD and coming to me for advice. ICly these cops are not welcomed by most. OOC .... we are all usually on the fence because it takes some real finesse to play a good cop without creating OOC drama. There is a definite learning curve since the obstacles they face are both IC and OOC (like having to make it known that they are going to try and blow the whistle on someone).
So, good cops beware, this is NOT an easy IC or OOC life and you can not be sensitive or take things personally that go on ICly. The HPD was made to be corrupt so your IC ideals will always be challenged and stomped on and you will NOT make any real changes. Nadir will punt CD to the abyss before letting HPD's corruption die. Like it was said above, OOC-wise it takes someone special to play a good cop in CD. You have to let go of 'realism' a bit and realize that this is like one of those never ending movies where the bad cop wins in the end.
The biggest tip to give is DON'T question others on why they don't like you ICly. Cops can smell a wet behind the ears crusader from a mile away. What they dislike even more is when that rookie gets promoted, sees the dangers and STILL holds on to their morals and ideals. You have an uphill battle and limited IC support. Some may just want to oocly not be near you because they have a story going on they don't want foiled. Just accept it and put your RP where its wanted because it IS wanted. Criminals LOVE bleeding hearts <3 We are just such misunderstood creatures in need of a nurturing hand to guide us to the light. *snickers*
There are other nice cops out there. Even those that swear they are good... just aren't as good as they started. Hathian changes a character and usually it is not for the better.
Aside from all of that, I would like this to be a RESPECTFUL thread where good cops can ask advice and also meet OOCwise with like minded people. This is not where we talk about past good cops gone wrong, etc. Its about encouragement and how to better help them fit in their RP without changing the character they want to be. Basically, it's impossible to keep a character going if they have zero IC friends to lean on. So to those who have characters that wont HATE the good cops? Post here... message the ones that need that camaraderie cause the good cops need friends, too.
