Ok so after having to post 140K in bail today i wanted to research this. I just want to make sure we alll have the basics on this
A fine is money paid usually to superior authority, usually governmental authority, as punishment for a crime or other offence.
Traditionally, bail is some form of property deposited or pledged to a court to persuade it to release a suspect from jail, on the understanding that the suspect will return for trial or forfeit the bail (and possibly be brought up on charges of the crime of failure to appear). In some cases bail money may be returned at the end of the trial, if all court appearances are made, regardless of whether the person is found guilty or not guilty of the crime accused.
now this is my question.
Sharea was pinned with 72 hours mandatory time...
Charge #1:
Fine: $25,000
Bail: $12,500
Charge #2:
Fine: $25,000
Bail: $12,500
Charge #3:
Fine: $25,000
Bail: $12,500
Charge #4:
Fine: $70,000
Bail: $25,000
Total Fines: 140000
Total Bail: 62500
Now... why did I pay 132500?? that number is neither the fine.. or the bail...
and why do we have bail? to release the criminal pending a trial? last i knew we really dont have a trial... and i dont remember being asked if i am guilty or not. and bail is like saying "yea ill be back for my trial" and i should get that money back.... you know... so im rather interested in this.
my only question is.. why do we have bail? maybe im missing something and just need that little piece of the puzzle.
