A lot of talk lately has been going on about what can and can't happen at HGH. We aren't sure when the view on violence in HGH started to be interpreted as "NO VIOLENCE ALLOWED EVER", but now we are going to fix it! We hate rules, but understand that sometimes things need to be seen in some sort of black and white. Please, feel free to ask questions and scenarios if the following doesn't help clear things up.
Is dark RP allowed?
Yes, horribly twisted and fatally addictive dark RP is allowed and, in fact, needed at HGH. We aren't asking every Dr. to start slicing people up, but there is always supposed to be that eyebrow raising, 'What the hell.. is that true?' aspect of HGH. Keep in mind that DARK RP is not the same as VIOLENT RP. The two do tend to come hand in hand, but the violence in this case is more subtle. More, The Dentist style (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dentist) or unethical experimental doctor style than Jason or Michael Myers. It's also more encouraged to occur on the doctor side than the patient or guest side. Why? Who do you think can get away with things easier and has sole access to the really fun stuff?
When/Where can Dark RP and/or violenve occur?
Staff - Anywhere where a door can be closed or a curtain drawn. Just remember that the wards are OPEN and everything can be heard and because of the violent history there is plenty of NPC security on alert. It also can ONLY occur with the OOC permission of the targeted persons.
Patient/Visitors - OOC permission required from target(s) and there must be actual IC staff present if you’re going to attack -and- if you what the incident to be recognized within the hospital. Why? HGH is a place for people to heal and it’s a HIGH risk area to commit a crime. HGH staff/security cannot be NPCed to not notice or ignore crimes, so if that’s what you are RPing, then it didn’t happen as far as HGH is concerned. The chances of you getting caught are high and only an actual presence of staff will realistically represent those chances. This will also keep the hospital from being a war zone.
The basement is a good spot for such play. If you’re staff, you have access to the top floor (non-staff members would not have access to get to this floor on their own).
What are some simple examples of the kind of dark RP that staff can explore?
It’s really limitless, but anything from injecting patients with things that will make them helpless to advances (and maybe have little memory of it) to making sure your enemy that you are operating on can feel every little slice, but not move a muscle to stop the pain. Taking a kidney when you are just supposed to be stopping internal bleeding is dark-ish and then you have the more intricate RP that could consist of brainwashing or experimenting on effects of pain, etc on the human body. I don’t want to get too specific, but as long as those your RPing with are okay with it, then we are okay with it. Remember, that doctors can make house calls to continue dark RP and remember the limits of the human body.
What about examples of violent RP that anyone can take part in
We don’t want to encourage random and plotless attacks on the patients and staff so again, OOC permission is required from those involved and there must be IC staff present if you want it to be recognized as an incident in HGH. These kind of attacks usually surround the normal stab and run scenes or trying to pull someone’s life support out. Maybe you even coordinate with a corrupt staff member. Point is they are usually small and quick attacks since anything else would lead to arrest (realistically)
What are the rules on weapons at HGH?
Anything that can be concealed and is allowed on sim is allowed in HGH and can be used in HGH. Anything else would not get past security. Guns and anything too big to be concealed needs prior consent from CURRENT working staff. If no staff is present, then those weapons may not be used. Anything that causes a wide array of damage must be approved by the current OOC lead.
This doesn’t cover every angle, but it should help be a guide on how to approach RPing darker matters within those sterile walls. In the end, we just want you guys to have fun... if it’s a scene and no one is around and no one is affected, but you, then have at it. Don’t worry too much about rules, just think about realism and ask yourself the appropriate questions. What would realistically happen if I did this? Who would see me if I tried this? Is it feasible that I would get away with this? Can this person survive this?
