so yeah, i threw a fit in the OOC channel last night when a handful of people worked my last nerve with their usual antics in there. i'm not mentioning any names here, because that isn't the intention of this thread. i simply want to see how many other people might agree that the OOC channel can stand to have some rules applied to it...

i think the channel is a great idea. i'm all for it. it can be useful and fun, but lately it seems like it only exists for a handful of people to share their inside jokes, jokes that can be better shared in IM as they're usually directed at one person in particular. seriously, why do the 1000+ people in the OOC channel group have to be included on something that should be directly messaged to one other person alone? the OOC channel group is... A GROUP. if it's not directed at everyone as a whole, it has no place there.

before anyone jumps on me and says "but the ooc channel was created for bullshitting", i want to point out that while bullshitting is allowed there, it's not all about that either. that isn't the full intention behind the group. it was created so that people would have a place to talk OOCly.... about things that would otherwise disturb the flow of rp in the rp channel and open chat. this is the place where you can ask questions you might have, share information, or yeah, bullshit to the general public.
(also, keep in mind that the ooc group was formed long before the forums were. that was our platform for the types of things that we now have the opportunity to discuss on the forums. yeah, people joked around in there too, but it never existed simply for bullshitting.)

in my opinion, the ooc channel group is being misused when it becomes a channel where two (or even 3 or 4) people carry on their own personal bullshit conversation. that's what private im's are for.

the reason i bring this up is because there are too many people who have left this group for the reasons mentioned above. i am definitely not the first to complain about this. and also because... damn, it's just annoying. enough already. every 5 minutes my ooc chat is going off because one person sees fit to hurl a rock at someone in particular. or because person A wants to tell person B they think she's sexy. use private im's for fuck's sake.

sure, i can x out the channel window, but how about people have some consideration and just not misuse the channel? i think that's a better solution, cuz having to close out that damn window every 5 minutes is annoying the fuck out of me already.
