((Feel free to attack her if you so fancy, I love getting characters into trouble!!))
There was nothing special about the way Sono grew up. She was the elder of two children, having a younger sister, with a mother and father, living in the suburbs of New York. She'd always been content with her life- the regularity in going to school, coming home, eating dinner with her family, and knowing exactly where her life was headed. Everyday was lived exactly the same.
Shortly after her sixteenth birthday, during the summer, Sono's life began to fall apart. The school year was over, her grades had slipped slightly, which didn't sit well with her mother. The friction between the two of them began to spread, like a virus around their family. Her parents' relationship began to crumble; her father began to come home late from work, had a much shorter temper- and her mother's became even shorter, if it was possible.
She soon found out her father had been late home every night as a result of drugs- cocaine, more specifically. Consequently, her parents divorced. Her mother took her younger sister and moved elsewhere; Sono moved with her father to Hathian. In Hathain, her life completely changed. The security she had known was completely vanished. Sono finished high school, managing to stay out of trouble by seldom speaking up, and mostly keeping to herself. City life, (especially the city of Hathain), became familiar to her after some time.
After finishing school, and deciding that financially going to college was impossible, she began to work many different jobs, all with poor pay and poor hours. Her father died, leaving her with their run-down apartment, bills, etc. She's barely making a living, but knows full well she's doing better than many others in Hathian.
Sono is still quiet, having yet to shake the demeanor she developed in school. She usually never starts conversations, and comes across as a bit standoffish; when replying to someone her tone indicates she has no interest, however this is simply the way she speaks to someone she doesn't know well. It tends to keep her out of trouble, though as of late she has had trouble dealing with her life, and has began drifting towards the bars as a release. Though it's not an issue yet, her drinking becomes more serious everyday.
Though she's lived in Hathian for six years, Sono still has a lot of adjusting to do.
((Trying to leave it open-ended...I don't like to fully write out a character's personality before I use them and really develop it. =] ))
