I'm new and having a great time so far. Thanks to everyone who has RPed with me.

Mallory "Scratch" Moorsider, Age 22.

A recent graduate of Ithaca College, she was enticed to Hathian with promises of a free apartment by her old friend, Raiza Treves.

She fenced all through college, which earned her the nickname "Scratch."

Personality

Scratch isn’t like the rest of you. You aren’t going to find her waiting tables to support her illegitimate child, or sitting on her front doorstep, sipping Night Train from a brown paper bag on a Monday afternoon. A recent liberal arts graduate, she has learned all about the social conditions which create crime and poverty, and might do more to set people straight, if they would actually take action to solve their problems, rather than accusing her of being smug and condescending— which she’s not, by the way.

Scratch is going places. She’s not poor; she’s leading a bohemian lifestyle. You could call her “unemployed,” if you want say it like that, but she really just needs time to focus on her writing, or her art, or spoken-word CD—different muses call to her from week to week. She uses drugs, but only to “enhance her creativity.”

No doubt, living in this squalor will afford her a plethora of seedy stories and images to incorporate into her work. Maybe she can be the next Hunter S. Thompson. She just needs to get published, and she’s out of here.

Developments / Prospects

Scratch watched the police beat up a bouncer who had (in her mind) only been sticking up for her when the city judge was berating her for (in his mind) trying to proposition him. This has inspired her with the sort of indignation one one expect from a middle-class girl who knows all about the constitution, and has not been raised to accept corruption as a fact of life. She has made friends with a lawyer, who may employ her as an assistant, possibly opening avenues for her to do something about civil rights abuses.

Her future experiences will shape her further (she'll be less mad at the police the first time a gangster hurts her), but I envision her taking on a social activist/advocate role, and getting the shit kicked out of her because she knows nothing about the real world, whose toes not to step on, or why some people might resent her attempts to "save" them. For this reason, I'm especially interested in interactions with police and public officials.
