casio-higosaidI need to ask a question. Is CD intended to be realistic? I mean ... For the most part, we seem to assume (and it's certainly easier for RP) that the world outside CD doesn't exist except in our backgrounds. So when the HPD shoots someone on the stoop of the PD, and freely admits in print and on the radio that she was merely badmouthing the police, well, that's okay then. Who would do anything about it? When gangs steal people and drug them into sex slaves? Sure thing. They paid off the HPD, or whatever, so yeah, they can get away with it. Bomb the HPD building? Sell organs at the hospital? Have an outbreak of an /extinct/ disease? (smallpox) Why not? Etc etc. All these are interesting plotlines, but they seem as though they fall far, far short of anything I'd call realism. Realistically, the aforementioned shooting would have hit the national media, and the friggin' FBI would have been here the following morning. Ditto the sex slave stuff. The bombing would have brought the FBI, DHS, and BATF down on our necks, and it sure seems like the CDC should have had a lot more hard questions about our smallpox outbreak than they did. I'm not trying to raise trouble. I'm asking if I'm expecting CD to be something it's not? Should I be expecting realism? Or is that not actually the goal in CD? Inquiring minds want to know (before trying to resolve CD's activities with realism drives her insane) |
