aria-sharplesaidThis comes off another discussion, but isn't directly related really. More than one person told me that people tend to discuss in IMs what sort of scene they'll play out, how it will be played out, who will be involved in it, and what the end result will be. This is actually surprising to me, as I've never RP'd this way, always being more free form in that you don't really need to IM me to start a scene, or discuss with me who will be involved, or discuss what will be involved, or how it will end in order to play with me. In fact I would find it sort of alien to linger in IMs with someone chatting about this stuff and then write up the filler posts to conform to the established outline. I've certainly written stories before and done an outline and brought it from start to end along that path established in the outline, but I've never RP'd like that. Particularly at a 'scene' level. The most I've ever participated in scripted RP is that someone lays out a general plot outline, usually a backstory, some plot points sprinkled here and there, and then the characters involved are watched to see where they take it and the outline is adjusted to fit any actions/reactions that the characters did that were unexpected, often with the outcome not being a single outcome but an array of outcomes, sometimes one not at all envisioned when the plot started. But a scripted single scene is just completely alien to me as a concept. Thus far I've had many 'scenes' I guess in CD, absolutely none of them scripted. I've had two conflicts, and the most anyone did in one of them was to ask me if I minded being the target of random violence. I said no, and it proceeded from there. There was no discussion about what it was about or what would happen or who would be involved or how it would end, well maybe the latter was hinted at by the party attacking my character, but I didn't really interject my own interests. I actually would have felt it would have been bad form to say how I wanted it to end. Anyway, I guess what I'm taking the poll about is simply, where do you fall in this range of possibilities? 1 (no scripting whatsoever in your RP scenes) Likewise, if you do use some level of 'scripting' in your scenes, do you use such for the following? 1 Violent scenes? Obviously players of exclusively child characters can ignore 2 & 3. |
