For many years, this hulking institution glowering over District 8 has seen many lives come into this world. And many more leave it. Blood, sweat and tears. Desperate exhaustion and struggle to save as many lives as possible while the city tears itself apart. Into this maelstrom of daily stress, tension and split-second life or death decisions came a young surgical resident. Top of his class at Santa Ramona University. He could have chosen anywhere to complete his residency. He had a bright future ahead of him. Or so it seemed. He wanted to be the best. Where else could he learn how, but in the meat grinder that was the HGH emergency department? Unknown to most, he was a member of a powerful and corrupt family who had sent him to Hathian to further their “business” interests. Both father and son were members of a cult dedicated to power, wealth and chaos. This hidden agenda motivated the young surgeon, at least for the first year of his residency. While he had cajun blood on his mother’s side, he had never known this place. He came to be more settled than he ever was in California. Or France. He made a promise. A promise he would stay and care for the people of Hathian once he completed his residency. Against his father’s wishes, he chose to do so. A hidden darkness that had lurked inside the young man for years was nurtured and blossomed into full blown psychosis concealed behind a veneer of heroism. Respectability. Dedication to medicine and service to his fellow colleagues and the community. Time and time again the young surgeon rose to meet the many challenges the hospital had faced over the years. Chronic shortages of medicine and qualified personnel. Health crisis after health crisis. The Noelavirus. The destruction of the Hathian PD. Constant gang warfare. Meanwhile, conducting clandestine acts of criminality that either went unnoticed or were glossed over by his colleagues and the community in general. He could do no wrong in their eyes. He was, their “hero doctor” Hathian General had remained steadfast and unyielding, a safe haven for many. A dark nightmare for some…until now. A terrorist attack saw many HGH staff and community members wounded or sadly killed. As if linked together by fate, Simon had also been broken. As the hospital was burning and dying, the doctor's fractured mind drove him to acts of violence that exposed his darker side for the first time. It seemed the fate of the young surgeon and the hospital he loved were inextricably linked. Now both lie broken. They will never be the same again. Together, they must find their way back into the light. UNIQUE: Hathian General Hospital was an icon. An institution. An unmovable monolith on the landscape. As is the nature of such institutions, change is usually slow and conservative. Until now. The building has been destroyed. The hospital staff are dispirited and struggling in a temporary field hospital. Morale has never been lower than it is now. A radical change is needed to preserve what remains of the old and rebirth into the new. A new hospital where staff are mentored and nurtured in their roles. Where senior staff form collegial relationships with newer staff and medical students from CU. To truly become the living, beating heart of District 8 it was always meant to be. To do this requires a leader both with medical acumen and ruthless business sense. EXPERIENCE:Simon was a born leader, right from college where he led his fraternity, graduated top of his class from SRVU and became a trusted member of the Hathian community. Many would not come to the hospital for treatment out of fear. But they would come to see him. Simon is also being rebuilt much like the Hospital he loves, by intensive therapy in order to reassume the mantle of the doctor and potentially the leadership of HGH. As his player, I deeply espouse the notions of creative story-building without prejudice or personal gain. At times I have put aside my own personal stories in order to support others. I will support experienced players and those who are newer to the hospital and the sim, as I have done for some time now. I have a deep sense of personal satisfaction when a collaborative story has come to fruition and that everyone enjoys. If there are issues, I will be the first one to listen and give encouragement. I have been an RL paramedic and had years of experience with patient trauma care. I have used this experience to enrich the roleplay environment and add to the realism as much as possible, which has been appreciated by other players. The hospital deserves a lead who will be a mentor first and foremost. I believe I may fulfil that role. IDEAS:Simon and his player have been sitting and watching for years while other groups / factions hold regular events for the benefit of the community while HGH sat silent. We would like the hospital to be more outgoing. Regular events would be the least we could do. The most we could do? becoming an actual hub of community health. Beyond fixing bullet holes and stab wounds, though that is important. Blood drives. Reproductive health. Forming links with CU and the Backwaters Clinics. The possibilities are endless. And that is not even touching the darker sides of things. Of which a rich and full story can be teased out. Unethical medical research. People being admitted and never leaving again. Everyone fears HGH for some reason or another. It is time to remind them why this is so. The stories practically write themselves. All they need is a guiding hand to help. There is a ready pipeline of potential future HGH medical and general staff that currently attend CU. My character has already been engaged to assist with supervising these students and providing guidance for their future careers. It would not be a stretch for him to ease them into a bright future at Hathian General. OTHER:No doubt a huge reopening event is being planned for the new build when it is put in place. If it isn’t? I would want to do it. A large black tie event to be hosted at one of the clubs in town. Or possibly at the hospital itself. Followed by guided tours of the new facility for both staff and community. The event and follow up reintroduction of the hospital will be a huge morale boost for the beleaguered staff and the community will get to know its new hospital and hopefully, new management. I would love to reawaken the old traditions of the hospital and make new ones that everyone can participate in and enjoy. |
