So many false promises, so many fake smiles, will she ever trust anyone ever again?

Zara Rae Macbeth is newly thirteen. After her parents mysteriously disappeared when she was 8, she and her younger brother were taken in by their grandparents who lived in America. But after running away from the stuffy english boarding school they had shipped her off to and getting into some kinds of trouble, her grandparents eagerly thrusted her in to the hands of the social services. She was snatched up and unceremoniously hurled her across states, from house to house. After they all had promised to find her a stable home, a few weeks would pass and she'd be out the door. But now, she's here, tryng her best to find someone who's able to handle her through the rough times and to adopt or at least foster her.
