Local gang member found shot dead in El Paso
An investigation is underway after a man was found dead in a El Paso neighborhood Thursday morning. The body was discovered about 7:30 a.m. inside his home at 4117 Lloyd Nolan Parkway.
Police initially said it appeared there was no foul play involved, but Chief Nick Dyer just before 9 a.m. said it had been deemed a homicide. The victim had been shot in the head with his own weapon and was discovered by police after a call to 911 from neighbours.
Dyer said police are familiar with the victim, Jace "Jay" Halsey, age 32; a known gang leader in his community who was wanted by police for several outstanding warrants.
Although the motive is not clear, investigators believe Halsey was specifically targeted "We're not going to comment on suspects right now" Dyer said "We have several leads in this case but based on the nature of the victim, it is not a high priority, Halsey was a known criminal with several ties to the Cartel, Rejects and other gang related activity"
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information on the case is asked to call 631-852-6392 or 1-800-220-TIPS.
