rabid-bedlamsaidAs a role-player who likes to see how my characters develop from childhood I have been noticing that kids in the Den often seem to be considered a nuisance or a joke. From my observations i can see why kid avatars are often not taken serious though its unfair that everyone from this sl demographic is painted with the same brush. I am just wondering if there might be a way for this to be fixed. What I have noticed is that the kids seem to have no structure. Anyone pretty much gets to be a kid if they want so the role-play is often bizarre and unrealistic. Little six year olds think that they can beat the hell out of grown ups. Three year olds seeming to be born with weapons. I'm not saying that kids living in an environment won't be violent, possibly antisocial with a series of social behavioral challenges that would lead to disruptive behavior but it should be sort of realistic. Yes, a kid might get a weapon from an adult or a older child but if a kid is going round hitting people on the head in front of there parents or other adults maybe the grown up would take the weapon away. Also Criminal activity. A kid living in this environment might very well get into illegal stuff. Pick pocketing, breaking and entering, Drug running, etc .. it all happens in the real world so its not unrealistic to see it in the crack den. What I find amazing is how many people and police will turn a blind eye to a kid doing something like this. Maybe they think there doing kids a favor, letting them off the hook, or whatever but as far as character development goes how is a kid going to learn that there are consequences to behavior. Or for the more jaded kid how are they going to learn to not get caught if sloppy work goes around undetected. Shit, this was longer than i thought, sorry. Anyhow, these are some of the problems I've noticed since playing Rabid and I thought maybe there might be way a fix to fix them. I was wondering if one way to get better kid role-play was to actually have a Kid group that when you applied would describe the role in detail and would have an application. Maybe, in the application the person would have to offer a brief role-play response etc. Also, I understand that the social services and elementary school will be up and running in a meaningful way fairly soon, I think that’s a great way for child Avi's to develop in a meaningful way. Maybe, the police and other adult groups could try interacting with kid avi's more. Though i understand the police department shouldn’t be used as a babysitting service for bored lonely kids. Maybe, parents should reevaluate there objectives too. I know allot of people want to have little mini-me gangster kids in SL but what would a real parent want for there child and how would they raise them to teach them the values they consider important. Having said all that I just want to say that most of my experience in the Den as a kid has been great. I've been fortunate to have allot of great interactions with some awesome role-players and have really gotten some great life lessons from a variety of people. Not the healthiest life lessons, but realistic for sure. I'm just hoping that maybe there could be some improvements with the kid population and how other groups relate with kids. Iight Peace, Rabid |
