Megan was just trying to get by, day by day.  She had recently divorced at the age of 34 but since she had married young she had next to no marketable skills.  You couldn't put "can cook and clean your socks off!" on a resume!  So basically, in the beginning of her newly single life, she flipped burgers and cleaned toilets.  Kind of like what she did before her ex-hubby traded her in for a newer model.  Those kinds of jobs quickly lost their luster.  Mostly because the pay she was receiving was a joke that only afforded her a one room dump to live in.  Eventually she relied on her best assets... her pretty face and her eye attracting curves.  There was only one legal place she could use those assets in Hathien.  That's right.  Megan became a stripper.  Suddenly the money started to pour into her bank account and she moved up from her one room dump to a crappy apartment with pealing wall paper.  It was still a shit hole but it was a more spacious and cleaner shit hole.  Unfortunately, her move up in society negated her recent fiscal gains and she was close to being back in the hole again.  After the third month of barely getting by Megan had to resort to sleeping with her landlord just to keep her slightly better apartment.  From there one of the local gangs 'appropriated'.  It was all under the guise of helping her out but she quickly learned that she was a just another 'mule' for them, hauling illegal substances around town.  At least it paid nicely.  Unfortunately, working for the gang came with a certain 'tax'.  The form of her tax was having to put out for the gang members on a regular basis.  That part wasn't so bad.  Those fella's were certainly a step up from her ex's bedroom skill level.
