Born in La Habana, Mikaela is the daughter of a Russian scientist and Cuban cabaret dancer. She has scattered memories of her childhood since she spent most of it moving from one place to the next, escaping the communist regimes. She holds on to scattered memories of her childhood, with her mother nicknaming her 'Moon' and facing adversity with humor. When her father dies unexpectedly, her mother fears they are next and flee to the United States. Her mother died shortly after, and she went into foster care.

When Mikaela turned 18, she decided to enlist in the military, using her resolve and rage to raise through the ranks. After two combat tours, she was a decorated and seasoned Soldier, eager for retirement. Due to unknown circumstances, she fled as she was about to complete her contract, leaving all behind and once again, on the run. Finding herself in the streets of crime ridden Hathian, she walks a thin line trying to find peace.
