At 28, Greenlee Morrisey thought her life was finally headed in the right direction. Having been raised in the foster care system in a small town since she was ten, Greenlee was–according to the caseworkers--one of the few “success” stories. While in foster care, Greenlee had overcome the ten years of physical and emotional abuse she had suffered at the hands of her parents. She had graduated at the top of her class and went on to college and law school before opening her own practice, focusing on family law and criminal law. Everything in her life was going well, including her relationship with her local police officer boyfriend, Mike. Mike lived on the edge and took Greenlee there with him. The danger intrigued Greens, and she soon found herself enjoying the late nights and the darkness Mike drew her into.
After one liquor fueled night, Greenlee woke up in the hospital to find she had suffered severe head trauma and various other injuries, and that she had killed Mike. Greenlee argued it was self-defense; that Mike had taken the fun too far, going on a drug induced rampage, attacking her and trying to kill her. An investigation confirmed her story and she was cleared of any wrongdoing. After months of recovery, Greenlee tried to get back to “normal”, but couldn’t quell her desire for the dangerous side of life. Seeking it out, and unable to cope with the memories of that last night with Mike, Greenlee began hanging out at the local bars, with unsavory characters, and was not adverse to going on the occasional bender (or two), using drugs and alcohol, and whatever else she could find, to chase the high, and drown old memories that haunted her.
After 6 months of Greenlee feeding her habit (and doing what she had to do to make sure she could afford that habit), the pressure to either clean up her act, or get the heck out of town, was increasing. Wanting to do both, and with a new sense of purpose, Greenlee gave up the drugs and mended what fences she could, before heading south for new faces and a fresh start. Hathian seemed like a place Greenlee could escape to--a place that offered anonymity and no connections to her former life. A place where she convinced herself the ghosts in her past would not be able to find her.
