OK I have officially become a twitter whore as well as a manwhore ... but i thought it might lead to some interesting forum discussion if i asked people what they think of the linkup between twitter and roleplaying in CD.
I do think twitter adds an even more immersive element to roleplay in CD. Even when you're not online on SL, you can interact with tweets. It's proved invaluable in setting up RP scenes ("ok meet you at 2 today" etc) .... you can login straight away and have a scene you prearranged on twitter ready to go.
It also really increases the IC gossip circle, helping rumours fly about town! Which IC is bad news for some characters *gulps* but i think does add to the sense of our characters being in a common social environment.
One thought i had though, is sometimes i think use of twitter is perhaps cutting through what potentially is a good RP scene. I'm thinking of characters finding out facts or info through twitter first, instead of being told first-hand in an RP scene, which might lead to more powerful RP.
e.g. Two characters face-to-face in Hathian with one telling the other "there's been bad news ... Mike's been stabbed" ........ rather than that scene beginning with "omg i heard on twitter"
Of course, one could say that is the reality of 21st century life, news between friends being communicated by tweets. But if it's at the sacrifice of what could be a really good scene .... maybe something to consider that sometimes roleplaying something out is better.
Open discussion post, just shooting the breeze and wondering what people think of what is becoming an increasing (and perhaps integral part) of CD RP.
