AnonymoussaidFollowing the recent trend of late introductions ...heres mine ... August 14th , 1986. that was the day Isaac and Caroline Carling brought home their baby girl . Callico they named her , her father giving in to her mothers obsession with the breed of cat. She was the youngest of three, her two brothers Thomas and Spencer were 2 and 5 years older than her , respectively. Her mother was a typical housewife married to a typical irish cop. Her father was strict , but loving , and often wound up working overtime to provide everything he could for his family . Their family was very close , the 5 of them eatting dinner together almost everynight , even after the children began growing into thier teens. Callico grew up rough and tumble , her two older brothers making sure she got enough experience taking punches and pinches and hair pulling , while she made sure they got enough experince getting bitten and kicked, and scratched. Callico adored her father , and he in turn her . Not to say she didnt love her mother just as much , but she was deffinately daddy's girl. She would often follow him down the street for blocks on his way to work . Him pretending not to notice her as she tried to sneak behind the bushes and cars behind him, until he would quickly turn and point his finger at her like a gun , shouting "bang!" in his raspy irish voice. Calli's relationship with her mother deffinatly had its moments. As the only girl , her mother tried to raise her as much of a lady as she could , no easy task in a house full of men. Calli was much more likely to throw her jeans on and go kick mud at her brothers , than to sit down in a dress and play with dolls . This was the source of many of issues that callico didnt quite understand when she was younger, and saw as her mothers attmepts to control her when she started getting older and more independant. Being an irish girl raised by an irish cop , her future was almost predetermined. She would follow in the footsteps of her father and two brothers and become a police woman. This was a thought that terrified her mother. Thomas had been shot while responding to a domestic dispute one night , and while he had pulled through , it was a very trying time for them all . Callico's mother begged and pleaded with her to go into another field, but Callico would have nothing of it . The constant arguement of how she was throwing throwing her life away finally got to Callico , and she stormed out , packing her meager belongings in a duffle bag . She had her room at the academy , and she had almost 7000 dollars still saved from the jobs she had worked through higschool . Her irish blood boiling she turned around to face her mother and yell "FUCK OFF!" before she got in her car and drove off. It was the last thing she would say to her. Callico poured herself into her training. Excelling at marksmanship and physical training. She Ignored her parents attempts to get ahold of her , throwing the mail she got in the trash assuming it was just another letter from her mother, begging her to not finish what she had begun. Three days before her graduation , the academy comandant came to her room , a grim look on his face. Her mother had passed away from a particularily aggressive cancer. It had been seven months since she had stormed out of the house . Devestated, Calli sank into a rut of guilt and self pity . The day of her mothers funeral , she stood of to the side by herself, to ashamed to come closer to the rest of her family. She felt alienated and alone , and even her father couldnt comfort her, though he tried as best as he could . Callico graduated a week later than the rest of her class , in a private ceremony in the comandants office . The ceremony really only consissted of the comandant telling her he was sorry for her loss and handing her diploma to her. As she was cleaning out her room , she noticed mail on her bed that had been delivered while she was away at the funeral. The mail was addressed from Caroline Carling . Callico's heart fluttered as she slowly opened the envelope, reaching inside to pull out a single picture. It was one her father had taken of her and her mother when she was 10 years old . She was sitting on her mothers lap, on the front steps to their house, with her fathers police hat on. Her mother arms were wrapped around her waist and they were both smiling broadly for the camera. A hitching sob rocked her body and she flipped the picture over , a single line of text written on the back in her mothers flowing cursive . "I always knew you could do it , and I was always proud of you for it . Love , Mom". Callico moved to Hathian 3 months later , determined if there was a shit hole city that she was going to make her mother proud in , it was this one . She carries that picture in her wallet, tucked right behind her service badge , and vows daily that she'll never let her mother down . Still alienated from her family , she truly feels alone in Hathian , but plods on regardless , meaning to make a difference , or die trying . |
