BACKGROUND: The Bait Shop is a long-standing staple of the community - the kind of marina everyone visits for their fishing needs or something a little dirtier. It's that classic backwoods bayou base where the locals gather, where clam boils, fish fries, and Mardi Gras traditions come alive. It's also the first stop for tourists wanting to experience a taste of creole culture in its raw, unfiltered form. The Bait Shop is more than just bait. Attached is a charming, no-frills diner where Alice (NPC) keeps the kitchen hot, serving up massive batches of gumbo and authentic crab boils. On the shelves, you’ll find voodoo souvenirs (maybe even a real shrunken head), boat supplies, gas (boat-access only), fresh fish, and hardware including spray paint for tagging or... other uses. It’s a gritty, creole-flavored crossroads - where deals go down, stories begin, and the line between clean and dirty is always just a little blurred.

UNIQUE: What sets The Bait Shop apart is its ability to serve all corners of the roleplay community — from factions and criminals to locals and tourists - without needing to be a crime-focused business on paper. It operates within tradition, upholding the gritty charm of its creole roots, but the flavor and direction come from the people working there. Whether they’re stirring gumbo or stirring up trouble, it’s the staff and patrons that bring in the chaos. It’s a place that can look the other way, but never pretends to be something it’s not.

EXPERIENCE: I’ve been roleplaying in Hathian off and on for over 12 years across a variety of characters, roles, and groups. My past involvement includes the Rejects, HPD, WKRK Radio, and the old Mental Hospital, which I once helped operate as a private business. While it’s been a few years and I can’t list every detail, what stands out is my love for storytelling — taking even the smallest detail I notice in-world and turning it into a moment that sparks fresh interaction. I understand what it takes to build community, create entry points for both new and returning players, and keep a setting alive with layered story potential.

IDEAS:The Bait Shop isn’t just an excuse for crime - it thrives on the simple, grounded scenes that make the world feel real. I enjoy these quieter moments just as much as high-stakes plots. Things like fish deliveries, selling fresh catch to local businesses, or creating a daily special like “Half-Price Lobster Fridays” may seem small, but they create moments where players from all walks of RP interact. These types of grounded roleplay help connect businesses like The Crooked Key (who already RP receiving fish deliveries from Jed), and create opportunities like clam runs to Hathian, or even bad cod "accidentally" ending up at Gein Burger. It’s these little, believable threads that help build long-term storylines and give new players an easy way in. The Bait Shop can be both an anchor for the community and a spark for whatever kind of trouble people are looking to get into.

OTHER: Private Fishing Charters: Perfect for smuggling plots, discreet trips, or bodies that need dumping. Pay off the ship captain and you’re golden - the sea keeps her secrets. Coastal Shipping Routes: Transport goods along the coast to and from Hathian and beyond. These open up more intercity roleplay, including ambushes, ripoffs, and cross-business deals. Gator Hunting Parties: High-risk, high-reward. Whether it's a trophy hunt, an intimidation tactic, or someone just doesn’t come back, these hunts are built for both action and consequence. Community Events: Fresh Fish Market Days Crab Boil Fundraisers Yacht Club Dinners hosted in the Diner Fishing Tournaments Returning popular events like Yoga, in collaboration with the Casino Boat.
