GROUP NAME: Conejo

TYPE: Faction

BACKGROUND: HISTORY: In Mexico city the tale goes something like this. A long time ago, the great god Quetzalcoatl, god of the dawn, the wind, merchants, and knowledge. Known as the precious or feathered serpent of the Aztec pantheon. Decided to transfigure himself into a human and explore the newly created world. It was beautiful, exquisite, he was awed and amazed at everything, the lush trees and stunning rivers. He walked far and wide in wonder, but the day was long, and the sun was hot, and as the moon rose into the sky he became tired and hungry for the first time. So he searched for food. As he searched he tripped over a rabbit, “Who are you and what are you eating? I am hungry and looking for food.” He asked. The rabbit replied, “I’m just a little rabbit, I eat the grass. I will gladly pick the grass for you to eat because I see you are a great god.” The god was perplexed. “I will die of starvation if I eat grass, there must be something else?” he continued. The rabbit replied without hesitation. “Very well, I will offer myself to you as a sacrifice, eat me and you will have the energy to continue your journey.” The god smiled down on the rabbit, “You are very brave for such a small creature.” Quetzalcoatl was touched by the courage and dedication of the rabbit, so he picked him up and caressed his fur, and instead of eating him, he held the rabbit up to the moon and imprinted his silhouette, the rabbit would forever be known for his courage and sacrifice. This folktale originates from the Aztek in Mexico, passed down for centuries but it is not unique. In China and Japan similar stories are told of the rabbit sacrificing and being honored. A noble creature that gives instead of takes. The spirit of sacrifice has been perversed since then. The once great gods no longer honor the rabbit, they exploit it. They exploit all of us. Conejo means Rabbit in Spanish, though founded with latin roots, much like the folktale they transcend cultural and national barriers. All are welcome into the fold. Led by Mateo Reyez, they function somewhere between a cult and a criminal organization. A lifetime of crime, conflict, and adversity has molded Mateo into the meticulous, arrogant, and insidious creature he is today. Highly educated but heavily discriminated against, he’d done with the world the way that it is. He’s going to create a new one in his image, one where the rabbits devour the snakes. No longer will they sacrifice for the serpents that once elevated them. Now they sacrifice for themselves and each other. Mateo is a sadistic hedonist and manipulative narcissist, he looks like a living corpse but he could still charm the wings off an airplane with charisma alone. A dangerous combination meant to draw willing supporters to do his bidding, buy into his bullshit and mobilize in his name. He has a lifetime of criminal activity under his belt, from his early childhood to now he’s operated in gangs. One of the few with means to escape he acquired a degree in law and became a criminal defense attorney, now a useless degree since Louisiana doesn’t have reciprocity with any other state. His chosen vice is chaos, the high you get from destroying order and conquering enemies peaks way above the drugs he ingests on the daily. It’s a high he plans to share, to addict and control his rabbits. Laveau is a city ruled by the Silent Serpents, the people are oppressed and waiting for him. For the moon to rise and put an end to the darkened night. The rabbits will devour the snakes. The Conejos will rise.

UNIQUE: Conejo’s preferred trade is in triple F. FFF, the three Fs, or any combination you can imagine that breaks out to Firearms, Forgery, and Farmaceuticals. Three things Mateo has made his primary business for well over a decade he plans to bring to Laveau. I have applied to manage Bubbas Boomsticks to that end. As a gang front for illegal firearm trafficking and sales. I am aware of the rules preventing myself and any members of the gang from using firearms until Chapter 7 and applying. I am also aware that factions cannot sell firearms under normal circumstances, especially new ones. However all current faction members are employees of Bubbas Boomsticks and sell the weapons anyways, the faction activity is just additional flavor to normal shop business. There is no current manager for Bubbas and ICly with a history in law and forgery in my head cannon Mateo takes the shop, finds, steals, or forges fake documentation passing him ownership from the previous tenant. If possible, I don’t know if new rentals are opening up, I’d like to rent the apartment above the shop too. Forgery is more abstract, I think it’s a fun RP narrative device. It’s something that maybe isn’t as substantial as drugs or guns, in most cases you can’t hold it in your hand or shoot it up your arm but it’s a very practical thing to offer. Even in corrupt cities and towns having someone with a backdoor into the city to create records is useful. Operating out of boomsticks still works well for this. I think of it as a federal gun store, forged background checks, fake Identification, fake gun licenses, fake passports. City permits, city inspections, all kinds of things that could create collaboration with other factions and other businesses pretty easily. I think it’s a good RP tool to generate stories that can potentially rope in a lot of parties. Farmaceuticals is a pun, we sell anything that you can grow on a farm from opium to marijuana, to the farm fresh corn we hollow out and hide the drugs in when we ship it. This is probably the smallest of the three, everybody sells drugs, it’s not the most sexy, unique, or interesting trade we can have but it doesn’t hurt to have another supplier you can turn too. I don’t want to step on toes so we don’t sell anything specialty or ultra unique in terms of variety. It’s more of a high on our own supply type of F.

FLAW: The group is driven by warped idealism and inherently reckless in their pursuit of retribution and ambition for power. They create more problems for themselves than they solve.

EXPERIENCE:I've RPed for 13 years with roughly 11 of those being on MMO settings. I've personally ran and been admin in several large roleplay centric guilds in that time. I've managed tons of stories and narratives leading groups of up to 20 people through RP events. I've been in SL for almost 3 years now and have spent the majority of that time RPing, I've held storyteller positions and mod positions on different sims and lead factions ICly on several occasions. I am exceptional at communication, time management, and planning. I keep a level head and try to remain as objective as possible in any given situation.

IDEAS:If you roleplay people will come. It's that simple but for something more concrete I would like to keep my OOC engagement with new players minimal however things like community outreach to generate interest, planned events, forum posts and discussion, good word of mouth. High activity and sim presence. IC recruiting will be aggressive, Conejo is built on ideals and seeing those ideals carried out. Criminal activities as well as interfaction conflict will be used as a vehicle to drive recruitment. IC outreach in the form of flyers with folklore and calls to action. IC word of mouth and notoriety.
