Daily Grind

By Quinn Marenwolf

TYPE: Official CD Group

SLURL: Hathian

BACKGROUND: For as long as I can remember; the Daily Grind has been a busy oasis for socializing as well as something of a family-friendly safe hub (as safe as anything in Hathian ever is...). I would like to keep those qualities while also expanding on the general coffeehouse theme. I have noticed a lot of people playing musicians recently, as well as a proposal for a music store - the Daily Grind is the perfect compliment to these attributes. There is already an area dedicated to this purpose but it really hasn't seen any use. I would establish a weekly 'open mic' night for musicians, poets and performers where the citizens of Hathian could gather to roleplay as well as being open to booking the occasional show for a specific performer. In addition, I would really like to add a magazine rack and a book store section (just a shelf or two) to expand on the genuine coffeehouse feel. In addition to coffee and pastries we could sell magazines, newspapers, books, etc. and be a place where people might come to read or use their laptop.

UNIQUE: Honestly, I think the Grind is already fairly unique. Yes, there are other places you can get coffee or a brownie, but it's the only true coffee shop in town and it draws a lot of play already simply because of that. I have already outlined my ideas to expand on the business for performers so I don't feel any need to restate them here.

EXPERIENCE:I have been in CD for about six years now and I have been a leader for... three? Four years? I don't remember! I actually haven't officially led anything for a long while as I have been waiting for the right opportunity but I have maintained an active, helpful presence in the CD Leaders group, attending meetings, contributing ideas and doing my 'job' in security. I am also a Plot Weaver which is something I enjoy immensely. I led at various times the Pie Hole, the Rub N Tug and the Phantoms gang. I suppose that might make me seem a bit flaky... but they did all end for IC reasons. My character, Rachel - has worked at the Grind for years and was a co-leader with Pia (unofficially) while they were married. Granted, she did quit when they got divorced but I am intimately familiar with the way the Grind operates and I only want to continue its legacy.

IDEAS:I wouldn't say I have any specific plan in mind other than roleplaying with them, finding out their strengths, encouraging them to submit ideas and rewarding 'good' behavior. By that, I mean that employees who show dedication and ingenuity as well as sound roleplaying ability might be invited into management or given charge of a specific area of the store.

OTHER:I was extremely sad to hear from Piaget that he was stepping down and in the tradition of carrying on the legacy he left behind... I would probably do a block party with lots of new menu items for citizens to try (like a bake sale), a DJ with dancing and perhaps a few games for people to engage in. I might even have the Grind Girls put on a little show.
