PROPOSAL BY: Czertza Resident

GROUP NAME: Micky's Gambling House

TYPE: Gambling House / Cardroom / TAB

SLURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Hathian/189/115/35

BACKGROUND: Micky's Gambling House, or simply dubbed Micky's, is a gambling house that caters specifically to card games and betting circuits. It is a low-key, hole-in-the-wall kind of place where a tired citizen can come in, sit down, buy in, and try their luck. And if their luck's down? They can have a cheeky drink. Micky's house game is Blackjack. In this game customers play against the house and cast bets as they hit. It's a simple, cheap, gamble, but with enough dedication and smarts, can pay off pretty well. Micky's is also the go-to place for the High Rollers' Poker Club. You can become a member of the High Rollers through a monthly membership fee that allows you to buy into games at your discretion. Poker rules are decided on the fly. The house takes 20% of the total pot winnings. In addition to the cardroom staples, Micky's provides a hub for placing bets on anything worth betting on. The races, the big fights, football, you name it. Though to make things interesting for the locals, special "for fun" bets are regularly held by demand on the happenings around Hathian City. But wait! There's more to Micky's than meets the eye. Under the table, Micky's seeks to provide some creature comforts to the unscrupulous types around town. Money lending is the biggest of the bunch. Micky's book keepers are savvy folks with a green light to lend to those in need of scratch. Whether it's to pay bills, buy into the High Rollers, or anything in between, if you need a cash fix, you can get it here. Just remember to pay your debts on time, and to pay your interest. Micky's also puts its thumb in the illegal gambling pie through underground fighting of all kinds. It works closely with the runners on the street to make sure that bets are conducted in orderly fashion, and the cut Micky's takes is humble enough to make it worth it. Finally, Micky's is all about customer service. For the High Rollers, Micky's provides carefully selected Escorts for those with a palate for the finer things. They are strictly outcalls, and can entertain at home, or out on the town for a reasonable fee. Rest assured, you won't find street whores here. With all of the fun and games that Micky's provides, it also opens great opportunities for employment to the denizens of Hathian City. Servers: Probably the best paid servers in Hathian City, they are paid enough to not need tips to survive, but are free to collect them as a bonus. Servers are the smiling face of Micky's Gambling House. They bring the drinks, the customer experience, and keep the place tidy. Muscle: Any place that deals with money on a regular basis has to face the predators of the outside world! So for this reason Micky's carefully selects muscle to play the role of bouncers on-sight (and under the table, debt collectors when someone forgets to pay their bill). Muscle are often chosen by loyalty, and an ability to follow instruction. Oh and, of course, muscles help. Book Keepers: These money-smart, savvy folks are people who keep the books neat. They provide the chips, take bets, take the fees, and manage the house's finances. Under the table they're responsible for lending and keeping track of repayments, as well as, of course, making sure that money laundered back into the business doesn't ring any alarms. Dealers: What would a cardroom be without house dealers? Love cards? Know your games? Like to watch players sweat while you trump their hands? This is the job for you. You're the life of the party, and you keep people wanting to play, though good presentation is a must for the Dealer. Management: Certain individuals who show loyalty to the business and the business owner may find themselves promoted to a management position. This is simply good administration. A manager's job is to keep the employees happy, and act on Mick's behalf when he is otherwise indisposed. Escorts: Carefully selected, you'll be the cream of the crop. You'll be beautiful, tantalising, and know how to milk money from a high paying customer. This is, of course, an under the table job.

UNIQUE:

EXPERIENCE:The first and foremost comes down to who Micky is, and what the character's ambition is. Mick is an old school gangster. Crime is a business, otherwise what's the point? One day, Mick aims to be a King Pin on his own laurels, and that means building a foundation. A platform to jump off of. Micky's Gambling House is that platform. By developing community involvement in both above table and under the table ventures, networking through gambling, and creating a stable revenue stream, Mick bloody Kelly can, down the track, push for expansion into gang territory. And better still, he will have a loyal selection of employees to enter into it with. In feeling out what would be a good choice for a business, I've found that there was a want for gambling to be around. I chose this particular mode of business because it is low-key, which is fitting for what is quite clearly a ghetto. Cardrooms are a criminal staple. Some of the most important business is conducted at quiet tables over cards. The other important reason I wanted to start an in-character business is because it's habit. I can't not do things, and having finally made it to CD, and felt around the sim, I know exactly what direction I need to take my character, and I intend to pull people along with him. Having a business of the social kind is a great way to build community and get people playing together.
