PROPOSAL BY: etchasketchy resident
GROUP NAME: Clam Convenience
TYPE: Convenience Store
SLURL: Teleport
BACKSTORY: Poe has been working at the Clam Convenience store for a long time. Her IC lover, Aspen Normandy, had taken over leadership/management of the Clam some months prior, but has since went offline for some months now, to deal with RL for a bit. Poe currently 'lives' in the back of the Clam IC'ly, and pretty much is always found /at/ the Clam itself. She has been, IC'ly, managing the Clam since Aspen IC'ly 'went into Hospital' due to his cancer getting worse etc. My goals are to keep Clam Convenience RP active and to maintain the business that Aspen and I have fought to keep active IC'ly for many months now. The Clam has given Poe responsibility and stability in a time when she had neither. The business has actually developed her as a character quite a bit, and I would HATE to see it fall into stagnation again. I want to provide a realistic business environment for characters to be able to develop plots and storylines in an urban setting. But in order to properly maintain the Clam, I need to be able to actually manage the roster and lead the business. What place has a better ability to emulate the most mundane, the most traumatizing, the most realistic roleplays of an urban environment than a shoddy little 24 hour convenience store? Clam Convenience has the ability to affect tons of roleplay, and it also has the ability to CREATE roleplay and influence character development. Poe is proof of that. I want to keep Clam going and keep it active. That, I guess, is my main interest here.
UNIQUE: Clam Convenience has been a part of Hathian for quite some time, but in order for it to continue to stand apart as the only convenience store--we need it to be managed with an active player, and have active employees etc.
EXP:I am a game designer and computer programmer by profession, and I have been roleplaying for 18+ years. It is quite literally my job to create characters, storylines, plots and environs. I have worked as faction/group leads before in SL and have been the lead of incredibly large, incredibly active guilds/groups in the past, for years, successfully. I value the ability to provide roleplay for others just as much as I value being able to participate in roleplay myself. More specifically, I have actually been in all positions (clerk and managerial) of a convenience store, so it isn't exactly something I am not accustom to doing in RL. I also do not tolerate drama, and know the value of maturity, getting along with others, and professionalism.
IDEAS:IC wise: Poe's interests lay in giving back to those that need help in Hathian. Mainly, those who cannot seem to find work or whom are starving and hungry. In her time working at the Clam, she has ran into more than a few people who were merely hungry because they could not afford to buy food. Her idea to help in this instance is simple. Once a week/month, instead of throwing out all the old baked goods and expiring food etc, to allow those of the community who are struggling to come into the store for a special 'food pantry' where they can get grocery items and the items can be written off as a charitable donation instead of losing money. Her thought behind this is simple: if you can help the hungry, then maybe they won't feel the need to steal from the store, and crime will go down, which in turn will make people less miserable in the city. This is, of course, just her theory. Poe also knows first hand just how hard it is to recover from time spent in jail/prison or in a gang. Businesses don't want to trust you, cops harass you, no one will hire you. Poe wants to do a sort of out reach program for ex-cons. As part of their required community service, they can help out at the Clam as either security, stocking, maintenance or cashiering. The Clam is always needing part time help, and Poe is always willing to offer jobs to new characters or seasoned veterans. OOC wise: My goals are very simple. The Clam has always been a great source of RP for me as a player, and I want to be able to continue to provide that inspiration for others, new and old. There are far too many businesses that get popular for a short amount of time and then fall vacant and unused. I saw it happen to the Clam, and Aspen and I worked hard to get it back to its former glory so that all manner of RP could be spurred into existence there once again. I have struggled to keep the Clam active and on the 'radar' so to speak, these last few months, and I do not wish to give up on it. I have ideas for the summer, which is grilling season, which could spur some great RP I think. Who doesn't love the smell of grilling meat on a hot summer day? I want to host regular 'grill outs' which could possibly feature meats only available at the butcher shop next door (which could be a great opportunity to do some cross business RP). I would also like to welcome a health inspector to ravage the Clam IC'ly, because I think that could be interesting. I am interested in running IC advertisements/specials at the Clam that might help generate RP for those that are either new to town, or are finding it difficult to get something going (we all have those days). Ads such as specials on beer , soda, junk food, new lottery tickets etc.
OTHER:Clam is a staple of Hathian. I want it to stay that way. I'm already RP'ing as the acting manager IC'ly as Poe because Aspen IC'ly made her assistant manager and when he went into hospital IC'ly, he told her to take care of the Clam. I have been rp'ing just about daily at the Clam for months, and continue to try to get RP going there. I'm not asking to change anything really, I just want to be able to better manage the place because it's quite possibly my favorite business in CD and I don't want it to fall to pieces because of inactivity of management again. I appreciate your consideration.
