Fed up with living beneath a self-made facade for his family, Alexi Kafka realized as college graduation neared that he couldn't go back home and live the life that had been set out for him since birth as a member of the Mafiya. He wasn't brutal, he wasn't fearless and he certainly wasn't up for doing the kinds of things he'd be required to to make it in the underworld of his native Russia. Making the excuse that he wanted to make a name for himself before he stepped into the family business, he escaped to Hathian with the goal of finding himself while getting away from his blood-determined destiny. For now, there's money enough to keep him up while he gets established in his new home, but soon he'll need to find his own way, and what way that will be, he has yet to figure out. Perhaps he'll find that crime is in his blood, or at least that it pays well enough, or maybe there's hope for him yet.
