tessi-snowpawsaidBecause it seems that some prefer the blog and others prefer the forum, I figured I'd transfer the contents of the baby book Tessi is writing in here. Tessi was tired, weary with worry and long nights perched in an uncomfortable chair in the waiting room nearest the nursery in Hathian General. Finally convinced to take some time away for herself, Tessi makes a quick stop at her apartment before taking a cab out of town. She returns to the hospital a couple hours later, clutching a package to her chest. She resumes her post just outside the nursery and peers through the window at her tiny little daughter, so frail and looking more cyborg than human. She sighs softly and slips into a chair and reaches into the shopping back, pulling out a baby book trimmed with soft lace and a pen she'd bought just for the purpose of filling it with a faint reflection of her love for Michelle. She cracks the book open and skips over all of the formatted pages to a blank one, where she'd begin writing in a scrawling script as the words seemed to flow from her thoughts to the page... My Dearest Daughter Michelle, You are... my greatest accomplishment. I could not be more proud or honored than I am now to be your mother. You have beaten all odds to get here, my strong and beautiful child. You are a wonder even now. If there ever becomes a time when you doubt your own strength, remember that you were born with it. You've been born into a house of love surrounded by a world of challenge and trials. Your daddy and I will do our best to protect you and prepare you for the life ahead of you, but know that YOU carry with you the best of each of us and have more strength in your tiny frame than anyone could ever give you. Michelle, as I sit here in the waiting room of Hathian General where you were born watching you as you grow stronger yet, strong enough to go home with me... I know it is my job to give you both roots and wings. And when you're old enough to read this, I hope you will understand that in order to give you that, I need to share with you the truths in life-- the good and the bad-- so that you will know where you come from and make the best choices in where you go in life. Remember that where ever it is that life takes you, my baby girl, I will love you. Always. --Mommy Tessi closes the baby book, a lonely tear rolling down her cheek. She looks once more into the nursery before heading down to the hospital cafeteria for another cup of coffee. |
