I stayed home today in our newly rented apartment. The spare room I'd made into an office for potential clientelle, people who would maybe someday seek my professional advice, help, whatever you would call it. The familiar furniture, carpet, chairs all reminded me of our home life back in Chicago. It seemed like, even so far away, there was always a piece of home I could carry with me. I saw a familiar face today. No names, but I am concerned for her. Perhaps that's just because my first day in Hathian proved to be interesting. Much more than today has been, surely.

All I wanted was to go up into the bedroom and curl up under those sheets. Ah the fresh fragrence of clean clothes, well robe anyway.

I got a call today from Dad. It's mom. She's not faring well at the institution. Her heatlh is in a constant downward spiral and I don't know what to do anymore. Dad didn't say much. Only that the doctors didn't know how much longer she had left with us. I could cry, but I shed every last tear on my mother a long time ago. She doesn't even know who I am.

Ah well.

I found an interesting shop today. A little mechanics shop. I admired a red little motor bike today and well. I'd hate to see the expression on Coy's face if he ever saw me riding home on one. He didn't know me back in my first year of college. Back when I'd bought myself a bike for my 18th birthday. Dad was so mad. He threatened to take away my inheritence. But I rode it for a year before I finally sold it off. Dad wasn't having any of it. The thrill, the excitement. But that's all in my past now. And just a phase I was going through to emotionally mess with dad. Who knows, maybe I'll get another bike...when I'm 50 and going through my mid-life crisis.
