Dr. Aaron Pattenaude, formerly Professor of Philosophy at the Ohio State University teaches this class on aesthetics (the branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of art/beauty, with critical reflection on the impact of art/beauty to society/culture/individual). This class, open to non-philosophy majors, will deal with aesthetics studied through key philosophers from Schiller (1700s) to Adorno (1900s).
Dr. Pattenaude has been on faculty at Columtreal for the past year, but this is the first class he will be teaching. He has been on sabbatical for the past year working on his third book. His Doctorate is from the University of Toronto in Philosophy of Aesthetics and his Masters was from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in Epistemology. His first book, Fascism through Adorno’s Eyes (2007) received critical acclaim from his peers in philosophy. His second book, Marcuse, Labor, Art, and Society (2011) was on the New York Times Best Seller list for two weeks running (#9, #10). His third book is entitled Adorno’s Radio Appearances Analyzed (forthcoming) and will be published in early 2016.
