The mission of journalism in America – the good journalism – is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. Join visiting lecturer Perry Pelham, a former reporter and editor, in discussing journalism’s tools. We’ll talk in classes about the power of the story, how to tell a story, and how to get and sort through compelling information and share those stories and that information through both traditional and social media. For this first class, please pick out one piece of journalism that really speaks to you, and be prepared to share the best, most compelling, two paragraphs of that ((RL or SL)) journalism with the class. The only homework will be assignments to interview other people in our area ((which gives you a great RP reason to go talk to anyone in the sim, hint hint, nudge nudge)))
((so you know, my plan would be to spend the first half of the class talking about journalism, and then the second half let students practice interviewing each other. So this should be a very interactive class, more so that the history one where i show slides and stuff. I’ll be asking people to interview someone you don’t know, so if anyone has an avatar that hasn’t meet a friend typist’s avatar yet, this is a good op)))
