Introducing the newest course offering in our Athletics Department, a cross over class with the Social Sciences Department! Our very own Professor Gabriella Zabalza will be teaching this class, bringing with her extensive experience in both the practice and theory behind dance and its culture. It will be an ongoing course, with each class introducing new material and building upon earlier lessons, so come to all of them to get as much as you can out of it! It will introduce all forms of dance, from traditional, contemporary, even spiritual and religious dances. Both technique and cultural significance will be explored.

 

Our second class will focus on the Sufi art of whirling, introducing students to this beautiful and spiritually important act.  Students will first be instructed in the symbolism of the act, the belief and theory behind it, before they will be introduced to the act and practice of it.  We will be meeting in the gymnasium, and students are advised to wear comfortable athletic clothing to the class.
