ANTH 150

Introduction to Symbolism

The purpose of these lessons is for students to be exposed to many of the ways humans communicate using symbols and other non-literal forms of communicating.  Students will participate in a guided discussion in class, with the instructor exposing them to various methods of symbolic communication and giving examples of some interpretations of it, while students begin analyzing and exploring their own perceptions of the material.

Class Description

The first class is merely an introduction to both the class itself and the topics to be covered.  Grading, attendance, homework, testing, etc, will be covered, as well as an introduction to the Professor and your other classmates.  Once that is completed, students will be introduced to the concept of symbols and non-literal communication.  They will be given examples of how humans communicate through symbols, and discuss ideas to develop their own concepts of how one might communicate without symbols.

Homework

As this is the first class, there will be no homework due.  Enjoy it while it lasts, as you’ll be working the rest of the semester!
